Little Nettie; or, Home Sunshine

GRIPPING
I found this a gripping book, only short, taking just over 2 hours to read. It's challenging as the little girl's brave attitude and self-lessness, coupled with her strong faith in God and His promises, caused me to question whether I would be able to display such consistent courage and love for others if placed in similar circumstances. I would highly recommend this. Though it's a story of hardship, poverty and neglect, there is nevertheless a bright flame of hope burning in little Nettie's heart which never dims and lights up her daily path brightly. It contains lessons which I will not forget and is well worth the time spent reading it.

Too much earthly unhappiness. Spoilers.
It's hard to take the bitter pill of the unhappiness surrounding this family without the sweetening of love and comfort found in the other Warner books. This one is hard to take, despite the earnest depiction of faith in Jesus (also found in other Warner books). I am weak enough to want a little earthly happiness before one goes to the happiness that is heaven (as the young protagonist of this book does).Note that this book also appears on Amazon under the THE CARPENTER'S DAUGHTER.

Love in Action
A tearful short story of a family kept togethet by their young overworked and self-sacrificing daughter who with the love of Jesus in her heart forgets her poverty and does all that she can to bring her father back to his family.

God shines His loving light even in the midst of pain and sorrow. This book is a wonderful reflection of that.
Beautiful sweet although often sad story of a little girl who lives with her overworked mother, unkind brother, and alcoholic and abusive father. The book has helped me to cling to the Bible Scriptures, as little Nettie did, as I go through hard times. As I read the book, it was like viewing heaven through the eyes of this dear, trusting girl.
