DEAD XMAS STRING LIGHT FINDER
We have this problematic to find dead bulbs on...automated, moving, xmas light hickey with a wire frame, synchronous motor and string lights. I am used to using wire tracers to track down wires in homes, cars etc, but none of them worked correctly nor well for this application. This thing just plain worked. And I love that it takes two, easy to obtain, normal, AAA batteries instead of esoteric, hard to find, coin batteries. The trick in using this to find dead bulbs in a string light is to test the wires, not the bulbs. Even on lowest setting it's very sensitive. Stretch and plug the string light in, even if all lamps are dead. Then point the tip of this tool at the wire after the first bulb about 4 inches away and then slowly approach the wire with the tip. Then on to the next and so on. At about 3 to 2 inches it will start to beep on a wire after a good bulb. On a wire after a dead bulb, you will be able to close to within 1/2 to 1 inch, i.e. closer, before it beeps. Use that as the discriminate to find the dead bulbs. Works like a champ. It's easy to use and is great value for the money and yes, the manual translation to english is poor, but there really are not any tricks to this thing other than press and hold to turn on. The rest is obvious. As far as accuracy, I give it four stars. I noticed that every time I turned it on for a different session, the distance of approach changed every time, but it was consistent during each of those sessions.Mostly, I'm just glad it worked. After I tried my other wire tracers and they didn't work, the wife just wanted to throw that xmas hickey away, she had found it at a garage sale and thought well...my husband can fix anything! Shhhh! Don't tell her my secret.LOL, seriously for ten bucks you can't go wrong, give it a shot.
