Our Family Tree: An Evolution Story

Nice introduction to evolution
An enjoyable book with a gentle introduction to evolution - probably suited to 4 - 7 year-olds. However, when the book takes the child through the different eras and geological periods, it says *we* were fish, lizards, mammals, apes etc., instead of explaining the evolutionary process which slightly misled and confused the child.

Such a beautiful book
Lets start with the art. It's just beautiful. Some of the pictures are really very beautiful and thoughtfully composed. Then there's the way the story of life is told. I just think it's done so skillfully. Admittedly allot of detail is skiped over or just aluded to but the book is for kids and I think this actually reflects the authers ability in crafting a good narative rather than get bogged down in detail.I think the overall point of the book is to show the main milestones in evolution while conveying the message that all life is one. That once upon a time one of your ancient relatives swam around in an ocean and another of your relatives crawled around in his belly in and looked like a big lizard and these guys are family members! It's great I loved it. not sure my 4 year old quite gets it yet she might be a bit young but it's a beautiful book and she really loved the pictures.

Brilliant introduction to evolution for inquisitive young minds
A beautifully illustrated story starting from the beginning. My daughter has always been inquisitive so when I stumbled across this book I had to have it.The story gently takes you through evolution by leading you through a timeline in a simple way to captivate a young audience. At the end a timeline is mapped for further discussion and there is a glossary in the back with a little more detail on each stage. So you can chose to discuss further with your little one of just read it as a bedtime story.I would recommend this book as an early introduction to evolution and encouraging openmindedness. And would suggest it for ages 3-7. I am really pleased with this purchase.

Lovely book
My 7 yo is very curious about evolution and I have bought a few books one by dr Robert winston, which is great but some of the explanations go above her head, and a broader understanding is needed to fully appreciate the book, so I got this book based on the current reviews and I wasn't disappointed it is a lovely story of how we started out on earth, it's not in depth but gently takes the reader though the major stages of evolution, when my daughter wants more answers about a particular part of the story we then use Dr winstons book to look more in depth.

A God Damn Good Book!
Excellent book. Fight back against religious idiocy which will start to pervade your innocent child's brain before you know it. This story will help explain the complex idea that is evolution. It's really hard to try to explain how life is now first started and then changed to the present day but this is a good starting point to the discussion.

my 6 year old was very pleased with the information this book gave her
After continually asking huge questions about where we come from, how the world started, where humans come from, my 6 year old was very pleased with the information this book gave her. I loved reading it too. Makes a complex subject accessible for children.

Cute book about evolution, good for pre-schoolers
My 4 year old likes this, its just like her other story books and is beautifully illustrated. I'm not sure whether she believes that it is a book about the real world or just another "fairy tale" but when she asks me where the first caterpillar came from at least we have a common point of reference to begin the answer. Can recommend this book.
