Mind Body and spirit. Excellent.
Great workbook, if you feel like working when you’re depressed. Lol. Just kidding. This book has really help me with the cognitive issues. The workbook approach is actually quite helpful in forcing you to be truthful with your various issues and states of mind. I’ve had depression for decades due to Hypothyroidism and it is only recently that I’ve managed to get it under any kind of control. Thoughtfully written and sympathetic to sufferers. Both my father and brother commited suicide so that was my level of desperation. Sometimes a simple explanation and a kind description of your illness is enough to help you.

Practical and Enlightening
I have suffered with depression for the past 17 years. Being an avid reader, in that time I have read dozens of books on dealing with depression (somewhere around 60). This book really stands out and I consider it the most practical and most helpful of all of them. It provides a 360 degree view of all the factors which contribute to that state and gives clear and practical advice on how to tackle them. I was very impressed with the chapters on nutrition and exercise and how they can help one on the road out of depression. The chapter on breathing techniques and how they prompt the brain to release positive hormones was enlightening.I was most impressed with one word that frequently appears in this book as one of the main symptoms and culprit .....RUMINATION. I tend to ruminate a lot and once that starts....I sink deeper into a depressed state. Dr. Rossman elaborates on acknowledgement and acceptance therapy and learning how to be present in the moment as a major interruptor of that negative process that could plunge us into the pits of darkness.I was very fascinated with the advice of how to diffuse self-critical and pessimistic thinking, how to feel your feelings so you don't become numb, how to get going in the morning, etc., etc. There is too much to mention here. Reading it was like being on a treasure hunt, one gold nugget after the other are revealed. The book is the perfect balance between educating us why we are depressed in an accessible way, and providing strategies and solutions. If I could keep just one book from my extensive library, this would probably be it, as I will be referring to it almost daily. I have already applied some of the strategies outlined with great results. I am a very self-aware person and yet I learned so much about why I am depressed. I also learned how to get better. The author's style is clear and accessible.I highly recommend it to everyone who is struggling with depression.

Smelled bad. Taking chances on used books.
The book smelled bad. Very unusual odor. I actually threw it in the garbage. I guess that's what I get for taking a chance on a used book.
