Meets French requirements
They are well packed in individual wrappings. Took them to France but have had no need to use them so cannot comment on the performance. A good price and peace of mind in case the gendarmes pulled me up for any reason. they have limited shelf life (about 2 years) so they'll be valid for next year and the year after..

Great deal - far cheaper than on the ferry!
The clarified French law is that these are still required - they may not fine you but can issue you with an order to appear at the local police station within a few days showing proof of having these, so its much more sensible to get it in advance. Combined shipping with AA Car essentials kits from Amazon is a great deal! Quick delivery

Seem ok, expiry date a little disappointing
These seem fine, and the box now carries an "NF approved" logo which does not appear in the photo on here, but I am a bit disappointed that they expire in July 2015 (bought in March 2014). I have seen comments from others saying their expiry dates were 3 years away, so I am not sure now if they are mistaken or I have been sent some older stock. There are two in the box, each in its own sealed pouch. They were bought for an upcoming French holiday, so for that they will be fine. Hopefully I will never get to report on how easy or effective they are to actually use. I think I can resist the urge to drink 5 pints and then blow in to one and find out goodness me I'm drunk. UPDATE: To comply with NF approval, 2 years is the maximum shelf life - so people claiming they have some good for 3 years is either not true, or they have dodgy ones. Still a bit peeved that mine only have 15-16 months life left (I bought direct from Amazon, not a seller), but not so bad as I first thought.

Stay legal when driving in France
It does keep you legal in France as it is mandatory to have it on your vehicle at all times

Don't Last
Does what it is supposed to do & cheap into the bargain. As we only travel to France once a year this does the job. It's a shame they have a use by date which means we only get 1 or 2 uses out of them whether they are needed or not.

OK but indication not very clear
The AlcoProof breathalyser is easy to use, claimed as NF approved, but the indication of alcohol level is not too clear. The product consists of yellow crystals in a glass tube, with a red marker line at one end. As you blow, the red line turns white to indicate that you have provided an adequate breath sample. If there is alcohol on your breath, the yellow crystals also begin to turn green-ish from the end at which you are blowing. If crystals turn green beyond a thin black line that indicates the legal alcohol limit, then you are over the limit. The only problem is that the colour contrast between the remaining yellow crystals and those turning green-ish is not very clear, so it's difficult to read. I tried a tester at home after drinking half a bottle of wine (which I'd expect to put me well over the the French limit of 0.5), but thought my indication on the tester was borderline. Of course, you should drink no alcohol before driving! Not sure if all makers of this type of tester use the same chemical principle?
