How to do it
This is how you do it. I don't mean found footage horror, like the Blair Witch Project. No, I mean comedy. Play the straight man. Straight face, completely serious. Watch it to the end, and stay open-minded. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars was because I would have liked more character development. But I certainly don't trust Hollywood for that, or almost any mainstream producer/director combination. Even though this is a straight-faced comedy, if you visit the Norwegian countryside, please take care. Thanks.

The Blair Troll project - only better!
The buzz around this film means that it is a must see for any serious `world cinema' fan, so I finally got to see it. I was not expecting too much, but was really impressed by this little gem from Norway. It is a dark fantasy told as a mockumentary from `found tapes. It tells of a group of students from Volda College, who have heard about an illegal bear hunter. They decide as part of their project that they will interview him and maybe even get some action shots. They track down Hans (played brilliantly by Norwegian comedian Otto Jespersen) who is less than willing to talk to him. He drives a customised Land Rover that is so beaten up it would get a Vehicle Rectification Notice if my local Constabulary saw it on the road. So the plucky youngsters decide that they will follow him when he goes out at night. What they run into is given away by the title of the film and Hans decides to let them film him and the Fairy Tale Troll hunts as he is sick of the job. What happens along the way is a story of how the group survive whilst tracking down rogue trolls. So is it any good? Well I absolutely loved it, it is done in chronological order as the tapes were found and is supposed to be a `rough cut', so it can jump around, but it adds to the authenticity of the thing that there are so many cuts. Obvious comparisons to `The Blair Witch Project' are fine, but this is way better than that. The special effects are good to amazing and the folklore around trolls is brilliant, we even get all the science as to why they either blow up or turn to stone when exposed to sunlight, and the whole blood of a Christian thing is thrown into the mix too. Add to that the over enthusiastic teen agers, a government conspiracy, some dodgy Polish Painters (Bear killers) and you have a whole smorgasbord of fun and action.Director André Øvredal has done a brilliant job of getting the most from a relatively unknown cast, and has made a truly original film, So original in fact that Hollywood have already snapped up the remake rights, so see the original first. It is in Norwegian with great sub titles but also has an English dub alternative. Either one you choose this is a brilliant film that shows what a bit of imagination and some talent can do, highly recommended.

Lets go Troll Hunting!
I saw the Trailers. I saw the hype. every banner and TV ad were saying the same thing about Troll Hunter. "GO SEE IT", "10/10", "AMAZING". I thought, well they like it and its got Trolls in it.. Okay lets have a butchers!I read up on it first so I totally knew the film was Norwegian with subtitles and was a cam-corder documentary style film. So I was prepared. I was expecting Cloverfield meets the blair witch in Norwegian! So what happens is, 3 students are making a documentary about Cow poaching in the forest regions of Norway. They find the suspected cow poacher and decide to follow him to see what he gets up to every night. They get a hell of a lot more than cow poaching! They learn that this man hunts "Trolls"! from what he tells them. Non-believing, they follow him anyway as he agrees to let them film him hunting these so called trolls. From here on out its all good with Roaring huge monsters and thrills n spills. You get to see a lot of Troll footage and each Troll encounter is different and more eye opening than the last. Especially the Films Finale! Now that's a troll! There are really good moments when the camera man runs with his camera jogging it around and shaking it all over the place before quickly looking back with it to catch an eye full of a massive troll chasing him! very scarily good.A film that gets you thinking about Norwegian cover up politics. Do Trolls really exist?.......... lol. whatever you choose to believe, you will enjoy this film if you are into monsters and frights. Its not a hugely scary film but has its nervy moments.I will admit... I wanted to be a troll hunter for a day after watching this..... :P.

Great film
Very good, although I think last time I saw it it was subtitled so wish I'd ordered that one rather than the dubbed version. Great film though either way

Make allowances for the foreign acting and you will enjoy it.
A good solid film with some interesting ideas. A little cheesy towards the end like they ran out of ideas. Make allowances that this isn't a Hollywood film and you will enjoy it. Would be good to see either a sequel or a longer Hollywood remake. Watching it dubbed loses some of the drama as it doesn't translate well, better with English subs. A fun film.
