Great alternative to the discontinued Apple Super Drive CD player
Since Apple stopped producing the external Super Drive CD and DVD player I have tried several alternatives. This one comes closest and works perfectly.

Didn't work at all
Absolutely terrible. Very low quality. Would not play any DVDs 😢 very poor instructions, were directly translated by some low quality translation software, so the English was extremely hard to understand.

Some hickups but it works
First thing once I opened the package was a surprise. The drive came with a nice carrying case. Nowhere did I read about this in the description. For that thumbs up. The drive itself looks sturdy and the silver fits my laptop perfectly. After unpacking I plugged it in via USB-C, fired up VLC and... nothing! Several connect and disconnect didn't produce better results. I then used a regular USB port with much the same result. But after 3 tries it recognized the DVD and I could watch the movie. Tried again with different DVD and this time it worked immediately. Now, all in all that isn't such a biggie but still a minor reason for concern. I used the drive on a brand new Dell Windows 10 laptop. Writing capabilities I have not yet tested. In the end it is like the old saying goes: you get what you pay for. For 20 bucks I can live with some hickups. But I can't give this product a 5 star rating.

For my money, the perfect DVD player/burner
I appreciate things that are (1) well-designed and that (2) function the way they should, how about you? The Guamar (that's the name of the product) is everything I'd want in a DVD player/burner. In operation the slot beats an ejectable tray hands down, being less trouble-prone. The company that manufactures the Guamar is fortunate to have on staff a talented industrial designer. If you like form-follows-function minimalism (which I do), the device's design is perfect. It's small and sleek. And thin, only slightly thicker than a deck of cards. No unnecessary decorations or useless doodads. And again, it just WORKS.

Excellent Customer Service!
The disc drive, which feels substantial, started off fine, but then only worked intermittently. The problem appeared to be the complimentary USB/Type-C adapter provided by the seller, Biscon Tech. After swapping a couple of messages, Biscon Tech very generously sent me a replacement disc drive and Type-C adapter, along with a carrying case since the case was inadvertently omitted from my initial order. Nice product + fair price + excellent customer service = 5 stars. So nice to do business with a responsible seller. I will look for and consider Biscon Tech's products for future purchases because of this top-notch customer service, and I recommend you do the same. Thank You and Merry Xmas to Mario with Biscon Tech!

Definitely plug and play on iMac
My setup is a 2017 iMac running macOS 10.14.5. With some testing using powered and unpowered USB3 hubs, I decided that the stable connection for my needs was the USB3 port on the back of the iMac (did work on a powered hub but my cat kept playing with it). Worked perfectly when recording DVDs using Toast 17(stop laughing) and playing DVDs with the new Apple DVD Player. Recording speeds hit 8x, which is twice as fast as older DVD recorders on USB2 ports.Had some questions with tech support and the responses was immediate. If I could rate this as 6 stars, I would.
