These are great colored pencils. I don't generally use water with them, though they do work beautifully as watercolors. But for coloring and drawing, they are smooth and so easy to blend. The colors are vibrant and look even. And I've never had broken lead even after dropping them on the floor multiple times.I ended up getting a larger set of the Pablo line, but even as the most basic pencils offered by this company, these are a great introduction to Caran d'Ache. I find them more pleasant to use than any of the other highly regarded artist quality brands. If you're looking to try out new brands and don't need many colors, these will blow you away. But if you're pretty sure you'll end up with these, it's better to go to an art store and get one or two from open stock to try out. That way, you won't have wasted money on duplicates if you get a bigger set.
