The beautiful wild canarian rockrose (cistus) has adopted itself to extreme climatic conditions. Growing in the altitude of 1000-2000 meters above sea level the rock rose survives heavy cold in winter, strong direct sunlight in summer as well as devastating storms in spring and autumn. After forest burnings the rockrose is usually among the first plants to recover. In mediterranean folk medicine the rockrose has traditionally been used as raw material for medicine, cosmetics and perfume. The use of the resin ‹Labdanum› dates back to the kingdoms of Ancient Egypt and Palestine.
