Okay, usable, not great.
I received the knife on time, though the Post Office head-faked me, and told me it might come a day earlier than the seller said it might. It came when the seller said it would. It looks pretty much like the picture presented on Amazon, except the pivot pin is not polished flush with the bolster - it is "dished out". In that regard, the photo shown misrepresented the product. The brass pins are nicely rounded. The stag pieces are pretty nicely matched. It is was more hastily made than my Case sowbelly, however; it is more crudely manufactured. The polish job on the blades, springs, bolsters, and stag portion of the handles is not entirely completed, and a little of the striations from grinding are visible under strong light. This is not so on the Case; it is fully polished. The blades do not open as smoothly as on the Case. One thing that particularly irks me is that the pivot pin is softer than the nickel-silver bolsters and, in polishing, the head of the pin is "dished out" and not flush with the bolster - this is clearly unacceptable. The knife says it is "Made in Germany", there is absolutely no mention of Solingen anywhere. I have a Winchester sowbelly whittler of the same size that was made in China. It's springs are not quite as strong as the new Hen & Rooster knife. The fit and finish is probably a little better on the Chinese Winchester; the polish of the blades, springs and bolsters appears complete, even under strong light. It's pins are not nicely rounded. I offer these observations because I could not find much information on the fit and finish of the current crop of Hen & Rooster knives. I would place it as not as well made as a Case, and about on a par with a fairly well made Chinese pocket knife. In this case, the Chinese knife shows a better polish, but its pins are not as well finished and its springs not quite as strong. The Chinese knife and the Hen & Rooster open about as smoothly - which is to say, not as smoothly as the more carefully made Case.
