16 Inch Shesham Classic with Mahogany Chess Board & Birch Wood Box

I wanted a good looking, traditional chess set to encourage me to take up playing again. Had thought about buying the pieces and (folding) board separately but then came across this set. Absolutely love the dark and light hues of the maple and sycamore, with the board matching the pieces - so much nicer than stark black and white. And it's great to have a decent sized board with no ugly folds across the middle. The board wasn't absolutely perfect in craftsmanship - there are a few tiny gaps between the wood inlays and the board surround on some squares - but you'd hardly notice and it's basically a thing of beauty. It has a permanent home on the coffee table even when not in use because it's so lovely to look at. And even the box to contain the pieces looks good!

not a good product. wasted my money and time purchasing.

I had initially purchased a slightly cheaper chess set (£40) from another manufacturer, and had promptly returned it when I received it. Quality was very poor. So when I ordered and received this set from Chess Maze, I was very pleased. There is a slight premium on the product price, but it is definitely worth it. Like the other reviews I read, it does have a really nice feel to the wood, and the pieces are lovely. There was only a darkened stain on the inside tops of the rooks, and when I wrote to ChessMaze, they promptly sent me replacements. The order arrived immediately, and service was great. Would definitely recommend.

I sadly had some difficulties with the delivery, but these were neither the fault of the seller or Amazon.When it did arrive, I was not to be disappointed. I would say that the overall quality, was better than advertised!The aroma of the fresh wood, from board and pieces was memorable, to say the least, and not a spot of glue in sight. Every piece was well finished, with the roundel of felt securely fastened in place, with no upturned edges.All in all, an excellent piece of kit, that I would recommend to anyone, who looks for 'that bit extra'.ooks for that bit extra in quality.

Ordered this for my Dad for Christmas 2013. He was very happy with the quality of the board and the pieces. Only slight problem was a white pawn was missing. I contacted Chessmaze International just after Christmas to ask for a replacement piece. They got back to me very quickly and said they would send the replacement piece out.Received a package this morning with not one white pawn...but a whole replacement set of pieces!!! I'm really impressed with the response from the sellers and they've gone above and beyond to make amends for what was only a minor oversight.

I bought this to teach my kids chess.The pieces are large and are fine quality. The board is made of great wood, and is exactly as described.Couldn't fault it, and at a very reasonable price.Thank you

I have bought this as a gift for my husband for Christmas. It arrived quickly and was very well wrapped. The board and pieces are attractive and the pieces feel good in your hand. I'm sure he'll be delighted
