Versatility is useful
The 5 yo watches too much YouTube kids... And started clamoring for a Yumbox. Previously we had been using an Omie Box and a Bentgo that has an integrated ice pack.We purchased to Omie boxes for our daughter a few years ago after doing quite a bit of research. Benefit of the Omie Box is the integrated thermal dish. Downside is that the thermal dish has a limited capacity as the kids had grown, and having it integrated with the bento box makes the overall box rather large. Additionally, the gaskets tear eventually as they must be removed for proper washing, and two of the covers have significantly cracked next to the hinge.Benefit of the Bentgo we had was the integrated ice pack. There were less individual parts to wash compared with the Omie Box, the silicone seal was much easier to clean. The downside was that there was no way to pack warm foods, and we need a bit more room for food. For a year or more weer roasted between this and the Omie Box until the second Omie Box started to fail.We decided to give in to the kiddo's preference and give this a try. For her, the branding and the rainbow design are the most important components that set this product aside from the competition, LOL. For Mom and Dad, the larger panino design allows for more flexibility for sandwiches, or the silicone inserts can be used to separate that compartment into smaller ones. This is neither better not worse for us than similar products. Like the Bentgo, the silicone seals are integrated into the cover and are thus easier to clean without eventually destroying them. We also prefer cleaning one Bento box as opposed to three or four separate containers. I wasn't seeing a larger sized Bentgo with with integrated ice pack, so regardless of which I chose, I was going to have to find an external ice pack and insulated carrier for them. The prices of these two brands were comparable. The only thing missing now was the thermal dish, so I purchased a separate thermos product for when we want something warm or cold that would better package in such a container. As one reviewer noted, there is a bit of a design flaw in the lip created on the underside of the inner tray. It can not be easily dried with a towel, the tray needs to drain in both the inside and the underside and then required several hours drying with good air circulation. We have not tried packing anything in it that is very liquid, and so far any juices from cut strawberries or other fruit have stayed put. I could see how aging of the seal could eventually present an issue, we shall see.

Good Quality and Cute
Overall I really like this bento box. It has a solid clasp that is easy for my kids to use and it does not leak which is extremely important as it is constantly jostled around in a backpack. It is the perfect size to fit in a standard lunch box. The insert comes out for easy washing. The designs are super cute. But I deducted a start because some of the spaces are very tiny and I have trouble finding food to fit.

Expensive but durable
My 6-year-old has been using this for about two weeks now and we love it. She gets excited for her “big kid” lunch and I have the confidence that she is eating well. I feel like it is very well constructed and very durable. I like having this design with the bigger compartment on one side that fits a whole sandwich because I can always put a small salad or something with a half sandwich there, with or without the silicone baking cups, but I could not do that with the lunchbox design with a lot of smaller compartments. It fits well in her insulated lunchbox and she had fun picking out some vinyl stickers to decorate it with. However, it is on the more expensive side compared to its competitors, and it doesn’t seem to go on sale while some others did. Also, I don’t love that the silicone seal can’t be removed to clean but I am admittedly very particular about removing all the parts of an item to clean it. I have not tried the baking soda paste yet, and have only hand washed to this point. Also, the inside tray comes out to easily wash, but it has this part around the edges on the underside that, while food doesn’t really go there, it’s hard to get a sponge up in there to clean it. The lip also makes it tough to dry because if it is upside down in the dish rack to dry then the water collect there, and vice versa. I don’t know a good solution to that as far as design but it is just a bit of an annoyance. As far as leakproof ability, I will say it does seem to seal very well. I put some thousand island dressing in the tiny compartment to dip broccoli in, and I can tell that it stayed in its compartment well when it came home to clean. However, I did pack a salad one day with balsamic vinaigrette sealed in a disposable cup with lid in the big compartment - my daughter said it stayed sealed until lunchtime and she threw away the cup, but the leftover dressing after eating seemed to leak outside Yumbox. It wasn’t much, but still seems significant that I had to throughly wash the lunchbox inside and ice packs. It does list on the description and on the box that it is leakproof with a little asterisk to say it means foods like yogurt and dip and not water (or I’m assuming more watery-dressings).I’m sure we will keep using it and be totally happy about it.

Perfect Elementary school lunch box
I first purchased this lunchbox 5 years ago and have since purchased three more. I got two more Paninos as my other children started school and now I'm upgrading my original child's Panino to a Tapas. The original Panino is still in impeccable shape after almost daily use for 5 years (grades K-4). My child has celiac disease and have to carry a GF packed lunch often: school, playdates, parties and sports activities. This little Panino has held up to rigorous use all 5 years and the only reason I'm purchasing a new one is we want the larger size.It is easy to open. It is easy to clean: I unload the tray and run both the tray and the open case in the dishwasher. It is leakproof for packing almost everything. However, I do recommend a sauce container for really watery sauces like soy sauce or vinaigrette. Thicker sauces however have been fine for us without a separate container. The color on the outer case is still perfect. The picture on the tray has started to fade but that has only been noticeable to me in the last year. Given how much use it's had I find that remarkable that it's lasted so well so long.Highly recommend!
