Orkney's Italian Chapel: The True Story of an Icon

A very interesting story, a heart warming story. We've seen the chapel and can vouch for its beauty and its uplifti g spirit. It is much to the credit of the Orcadians that it has been maintained as a tribute to its founders and not just as a tourist attraction. It's not a very exciting read but it has been well researched.

I found this to be a very interesting book. It gives the full, detailed history of the building of this fascinating chapel. It also includes a lot of information on the reasons why the Italian prisoners were settled in Orkney. Philip Paris has also written the history of the Italian Chapel in the form of a novel which is also an excellent read.

What a delightful book, even under the circumstances. I will be visiting "the remnants" of the Chapel this summer. I read the kindle first, and I have subsequently bought the book as they have the photos, so I shall read it again.Regards,

Inspiring story. The Chapel is a symbol of faith and hope and also of friendship between people who were supposed to be enemies. A friendship that continues to this day with the descendants of the men involved still in contact. It is also a testimony to the indomitable spirit of the Italians.

My wife and I visited this chapel in 1996 and now wish we knew as much history about the Chapel then as we read about in the book.I include the Chapel in a movie I made of Orkney and other areas of Scotland. This movie is very popular with people of various Service and community clubs in the area we live in South Australia. A more interesting story to tell in the future.RegardsIan Smart
