Great movie!
This was a great movie! True story first of all which makes u feel alot of emotion/sadness for those involved. Alot of drama in this movie.. I think alot of people went through the same thing that this man did, so sad. Seeing what this man had to go through to get his life back on track....just seeing how hard it is just to get up & walk again.. I've seen movies where some paralyzed people have to rehab their life away so they can walk again.. One thing I have to say is that even though I really liked this movie, I DON'T LIKE all the constant cursing/blaspheme in this movie! Every other word seemed to be the F word & taking the Lords Name... I hate that! This is my opinion & just to let others know..

A strong, no-fluff, very melon collie, raw drama based on the Boston Marathon Bombing event...
NO SPOILER REVIEW.4 Stars. This is an interesting one to rate and review. Simply because there's a lot to address, being that this is about a guy's story who was effected by a real-life tragedy-event (the Boston Marathon bombing). It's really not much to do with the bombing event, and mostly to do with this guy's story and how it changed his life and what his world looked like and life from his perspective.Firstly, anyone who was personally affected by that tragedy or involved, is going to have probably very opinions and perspectives naturally on a story/movie like this based on it. And they are entitled to that. I am from the Midwest and far removed from any personal connection to the event. So I speak as just an average joe american who watched this movie.I did go into the movie thinking it would be some kind of uplifting, inspiring type of movie.Well... it isn't... I mean not really anyways. Not exactly. This movie has a distinct quality about it. It is really dark for the most part. But at the same time I think is just painting a very real and non-romanticized picture of this individual's life and what it was like walking through the journey he went through. Sometimes it's frustrating because his response seems like unnatural or not the kind of response perhaps you or I would have to a lot of what sort of came his way. In any case, the portrayal of his daily life and relationships is certainly not glamorous and sometimes almost painfully gritty and depressing to watch. In that sense, this film is audacious I think and bold in that it makes no pretenses. And to that, I suppose there is a certain amount of respect and I must tip my hat. At the same time, no one like a story without a resolve or some kind of conclusion and we tend to like happy endings. This one, although actually has that, it doesn't feel particularly strong but rather a very subtle happy ending. I mean, like you are really more absorbed with all the depressing and rough and trying elements of the man's story. So this one is a unique film I must say. It's like the most sort of uplifting but also most depressing film I've seen in awhile... both at the same time.Acting was solid and on point. I am a Tatiana Maslaney fan since I saw the whole Orphan Black series and she does not disappoint. There are some seriously charged scenes of dialouge/interaction and they are 100% real and believable they did a stellar job of making us feel immersed in the real-struggle and challenges of these individuals.I've traveled and lived around the world, but I am from the Midwest, and east coast is one place I have never been. I don't know if all Bostonians talk like that, but man they certainly painted these Boston people at the center of this story as some very simple, dumb, crude, vulgar people. I don't know if they are really like that, but wow, they sure seem like real simpletons if so! So I can't speak to that since I've never been in Boston. They are definitely vulgar though.Nothing is fast-paced here. Don't watch if you need lots of stimulation to stay engaged. And don't watch this if you want to be uplifted I'd say. Although, on a sidenote I must mention there is one scene where the protagonist has a dialogue with another character in a cafe and it is very beautiful. This movie isn't all depressing, but you can mostly count on getting that. This is a very very RAW look at the life of a person who was unexpectedly dealt a blow of tragedy by the Boston bombing event.

Inspirational Beyond Words
Allow me to cut straight to the case. This was an excellent movie.'Stronger' stars Jake Gyllenhaal as a survivor following the Boston Marathon bombing that has lost both of his legs. This movie is based off of the true story of Jeff Bauman.Firstly, from all of my research I've done so far, it would appear that what happens in this film is not exaggerated, and was as close to "the real thing" that we could expect to receive in as little as two hours . I just want to congratulate the directors and the actors in film for keeping this film as close to the true story as they could. This film doesn't depend on exaggerated reactions and other emotional appeals, and that is certainly a sign of good writing; the diretor really did his homework, and this should be an inspiration to others who have an interest in replicating the subject matter (and the like) in this film. There are brief moments in this movie where Jeff is shown to have symptoms of PTSD (most specifically, flashbacks), and it just goes to show how much care was taken in relating Jeff's current mental state to the audience. These moments are seemingly random and don't always have a clear trigger, and I'm okay with this - that's PTSD after all! That just goes without saying that this film takes mental health and how it is presented in the media seriously. Again as I said before, I hope other would-be directories are taking their notes...(Spoiler alert: There are 2 scenes where Jeff's lower body is shown right after the bombing occurred while he is still at the scene. It's pretty graphic, but very brief.)I can't make this review without also thanking the director for including what is almost implied commentary about the role caretakers, family members, and those who want to be supportive; more-over, this film tells us what too many that want to be helpful have an issue admitting to themselves: that efforts to help our loved ones can sometimes feel overbearing, overwhelming, and over-the-top. We see Jeff's loved ones coming to terms with what their support needs to "look like" over the course of the entire film, and that's an impressive amount of character development to squeeze out of multiple characters in the allotted time this movie awards. This movie was the epitome of inspiration, and I don't imagine anyone would argue against that statement. These kinds of films have a very special place in my heart, and I think the same will go for you.I would recommend!

"More like this" rating - we need to see good stories of triumph over challenges
This is a true story of triumph after tragedy! It won critical acclaim but should be promoted better to win the sales it says it has missed. The film is really well done and deserves a fine following. When I saw "Jake Gyllenhaal" as lead actor, I knew it was going to be a worthy purchase! It was.He plays the part of Jeff Baumann, who lost both legs above the knee to the Boston Marathon bomber in 2013, and helped FBI capture of the terrorists, since he was standing right AT the spot where one of the bombs was set and exploded.

Realistic but slow
This story presented personal struggle in a realistic light but I found it too slow moving. I didn’t finish it.
