These are BRIGHT!
Most LED replacements for older technology lamps tend to match the light output rather than the power rating, like the "100 Watt equivalent" LED bulbs that put out the same 1500 lumens that a 100 W tungsten bulb does. Here, not so much. The standard for the U-shaped fluorescents was about 40 Watts for around 3500 lumens, but THESE replacements take 36 Watts and produce 4800 lumens, which is a noticeable difference. I LIKE.Two things you need to know, though: 1) these take 120 VAC directly, without a ballast, so if you are replacing a U-line fluorescent with these, you have to rewire the fixture by removing the ballast and wiring the 120V directly to the sockets. 2) these have no diffusion at all; you can see the bare LEDs, which means if your fixture doesn't have a diffuser, it's going to look a lot different, and you might want to add a diffuser.Neither of these things is necessarily a bad thing. For example, if you want to build a new fixture to use these, the wiring is very simple and you don't need to buy a ballast. One other thing: the original U-line tubes were basically 40 Watt 4' tubes bent in half, and the whole thing lit up. These have two 2' tubes with plastic ends holding them together, as you can see in the picture. Doesn't make much difference, but it's something to be aware of.BRIGHT!

You must remove the ballast for retrofitting these direct AC bulbs!
I ordered these not realizing I no longer have any lamps that use a u-bulb. As an EE and electronics enthusiast, however, I have been able to put these to use. I was able to test drive them with a DC supply, with about 60 volts being enough to get them to illuminate. I then used some aluminum flashing to fabricate a pair of makeshift enclosures and mounted them to the ceiling. So far they have worked like a champ, bright and clean. I would confidently recommend these to anyone still using fluorescents, as LEDs will reduce your utility bills and require significantly less maintenance than fluorescents with ballasts. It's too early to comment on the durability of this particular bulb but I will be sure to update if they fail to live up to my 5 star review.

Direct replacement for unreliable fluorescent tubes. Nice and bright
I have two fixtures on my lower level that use U shaped bulbs. For some reason the fluorescent have never seemed to last as long as I thought they should and they do get progressively dimmer. These U Bend LEDs are the perfect replacement! I had to replace the end supports for the bulb to accommodate to the slight difference in size (these bulbs have a squared off end compared to the rounded on the fluorescents) but that's an issue with the fixture not the bulb. It a big difference in the quality of the light. I had noticed the slight flickering of the old tubes as they aged. These new LEDs are flicker free and super bright. I had originally thought of replacing the actual fixtures with LED panels but the space in the drop ceiling is quite limited and the changeout would have been difficult. These LEDs made the changeover effortless. I just swapped out the end supports (in seconds) and the new bulbs just snapped in place. The wiring to bypass the old ballast was simple to bypass. Great improvement with minimal effort. Gives new life to old fixtures.

They work just fine
These lights work great. They are nice and bright. I dont have the equipment to measure the actual lumen output, but they are bright enough for my use. They are easy enouth to hook up, it is pretty much straight forward if you have used any LED replacement tubes. The color is fine. I would have preferred a 5000k light, but this is advertised as 6000k so that is acceptable. It is too soon to measure how long the bulbs will last, but if I see early failures I will updat this review.

Brighter than Fluorescent and cheaper to run
I have two fixtures in my shop that use the U-shaped bulbs.I have been switching all my lights to LED because they are brighter, cleaner light, use less energy and they start instantly in cold weather. These bulbs require you to take the ballast out of the circuit, which is pretty easy, but I suggest marking the light fixture in some way so you remember that this has been done. I don't know what would happen if you put I regular fluorescent bulb in with the modified wiring.

Bright and energy efficient
Those bulbs are great. They have the best of both worlds (brighter than the fluorescent ones and much more efficient). They are relatively easy to install but I had a few issues bypassing the ballasts (this has nothing to do with the bulbs though) but if you do not know what you are doing it's best to hire an electrician
