Sonicware SmplTrek [Portable Production Sampler] Compact, lightweight and battery powered Drum Machine & Sampler with Built-in Mic & Speaker

I love the sound quality and the build of the product I toy around with it all the time it was just what I wanted something small and portable😊

The only minus is the small screen. Other than that, it's a great device and just what I was looking for.

SmplTrek is a portable sampler that is versatile and complete. It has a built in microphone and speaker. It has full size MIDI ports and 1/4" audio jacks. The drum pads are very responsive. SmplTrek runs on 6AA batteries which is very convenient. It's very light and the display is small but very clear and readable. There were a couple of negatives. Maybe because of the 6AA batteries and it's small size, there was no room for a USB C port when Smpltrek was released in 2022, so it has a micro USB Type-B port which is incovenient when most of my other audio equipment has a USB C or Thunderbolt 3/4 port. Because it lacks the USB Type-C port, it can't be bus powered like the Roland SP-404 MK2. I purchased SmplTrek new for $429 shipped by Amazon and sold by SONICWARE, but it had smudges, powder and debris on the unit, and used batteries in the unit. Ther's a good case to keep the SmplTrek, especially if you need something very portable. I took one star off my review for the condition in which it arrived.

I have my fair share of gear, especially samplers (including the king - MPC). Straight up, after my MPC… this might just be my new favorite - it works as a charm with my iPad and iPhone (main production systems for me), and is an amazingly fast and intuitive groove box. Whilst some details remain, sonicware seems to be very responsive to their clients and I would imagine fixed will come (for example, piano roll is kinda slow to work with - you can sequence notes but not really their duration or gates… etc). Definitely check a YouTube video before purchasing but IMO: This beats any groove box around their (and even worse) pricing: definitely a better groove box than the MC-101, also than the circuit rhythm and tracks (and I love all these devices btw). Maybe even the greatest companion to precisely THOSE machines themselves (combined they should make for an amazing mobile setup). Loving mine and honestly wish I had gotten it earlier - much earlier: probably would have kept me busy far longer than my first groove boxes (ie, mc 101 - a great device but very “standalone”, not great to work with when using stuff like iPad and iPhone as production centers).

Great portable sampler, actually has a built in mic unlike most portable samplers, but most importantly for me is that it functions like a scene based DAW as well with midi in/out/thru capabilities, is portable, and has a built in speaker. Has some pretty cool built in samples (you'll need a memory card), and also a downloadable sample pack from Black Octopus. I like that the pad colors are configurable, pretty good for switching kit and samples just by by seeing a color pattern as well as knowing what clip/sound is which. Works great as a centerpiece for sequencing multiple instruments or standalone.

This is the groovebox to end all groove boxes. It has the connectivity to control and sample anything, excellent performance and looping ability, and deep tools, sample banks, and controls to make music with or without a computer. It’s portability is amazing and the sound quality is perfect. A+++++

I was able to get to a point that I was comfortable with the workflow in about an hour compared to the mpc one that took me weeks to learn. It is not as deep or powerful as the mpc but I find I use it a lot more. Lot of fun!

This is my first sampler, and so far I love it. Easy to use, hard to put down. I carry it everywhere. Be sure to buy rechargeable batteries.

この製品、主に海外で人気があるのでしょうか？ レビューも海外の方ばかりなので、届いたばかりですが参考程度に気付いた点をお伝えします。 まずこの製品に辿り着くまでには少々時間を要しており、最初Nintendo DSソフトのKORG M01をイジっていて、ゲーム機のような物で気軽に音楽制作を行えたら楽しいだろうと考えていました。 そこで当初はTeenage Engineering EP-133 K.O. IIやAkai Professional MPC One+なども候補に入れていましたが、EP-133はデザイン優先で操作が複雑に感じライブでは良いが制作にはあまり向いていないし記憶容量が64MBとケチくさいほど少ない。MPC One+は少し高価で機能も高いが大きく重く「気軽」というよりも「ガチ」になるので避けました。多分発熱も高いだろうと感じれば膝上などで気軽に扱えないと思った次第です。 因みにこの製品は「ほんわか」と暖かくなる程度です。（今のところ） その後なんだかんだと色々検索したりYouTube動画を観たりしていたらこの製品にやっとこさたどり着きました。 この製品でも同様のサンプラーでLofi-12 XTという物もあり、当初悩んでましたがこちらはビートメイクやライブ向けに近い要素が強いようで、私はリラックスしてベッドやソファ、外などで気軽に音楽制作を楽しめたらという事もあれば汎用性はSmplTrekの方が高いということから決めた次第です。 残念なのはLimited Retro Colorのようなカラバリがないのですが、長期的に使用したら「経年劣化で黄ばむかな？」と良い意味で諦めました。 決めては他にも色々ありますが、まず本体が多分ゲームボーイを意識した作りをしており、十字キーや赤い2つの丸ボタン、画面下にある棒状のボタンもゲームボーイのセレクト、スタートボタンを意識したものと思われる遊び心のある形状。 ヘッドフォン端子も本体下部に搭載したのもゲームボーイを踏襲したように感じます。 そしてコンパクトではありますが機能性を十分考えた作りとなっており、EP-133のようにデザインを前面に出したものではありません。 本体は多分ABS樹脂だと思われますが、安っぽさは感じられずビルドクオリティは高いと感じ、適度な重みと強度を感じます。 ダイヤルやボタンなどは小さいながらも操作性が悪いとは感じなければ、やはり携帯ゲーム機感覚で両手で操作する感覚に近くなると思えますが、本体表面がスベスベしているので滑りやすく、厚みがあるのでなんとかグリップできるという感じです。 なのでスマホスタンドなどに起き固定し使用するのが得策と思われます。 ダイヤルも回してクリック感のある物（ABCD、VALUEダイヤル）とそうでないもの（ボリュームダイヤルなど）で操作感を意図的に分けているようで、適度な重みもあり一部押し込みにも対応しています。 メインとなるボタンの方はシリコンで比較的柔らかめの押し感ですが、最下部のパッド部分は異なり押しているというよりも叩いていると強く感じられ、これはパッド搭載のMIDIキーボードと同様にベロシティーの反応を得るためこのような感触になっているのだと思います。 私的に伝えると硬いグミの質感に近い感じです。 （感度は設定で変えられます） 機能、そして決め手と言えるのがこのようなコンパクトな製品では珍しくPCのDAWのようにタイムラインを視覚的に確認できることです。 これがあるかないかで主に初心者に近い私には雲泥の差になり打ち込みも比較的楽になると感じました。 スピーカーも搭載しており、音量は高いとは言えず音質も若干こもっているかな？と感じこれは簡易的な物と考えたほうが良いです。 操作は基本的なPCのDAWなどを使用していればある程度直感的に理解できると思いますが、まだ私も触り始めたばかりですがコンパクトなだけにボタン一つに色々な機能が振り分けられているためマニュアルなどを読む必要性は高いと思います。 一応小さなディスプレイには操作に関連した簡易的アイコンが表記されるのでそれを辿ると「なるほど」と理解に繋がると思えます。 最後になりますが現状気付いた小さなこの製品の難点、良い点を伝えると、 ●難点=画面がとても小さい。 やはり1.5インチというディスプレイはとても小さく、当然文字も小さい。 老眼の私には老眼鏡必須になればせめて2～2.5インチぐらいにしてほしかった。 それにこのサイズの保護フィルムは需要から殆ど無いので購入する場合は中華携帯ゲーム機のANBERNIC RG Nanoの保護フィルムを必然的に買うことになると思えれば、届いた時本体はビニールで包まれ保護されていましたがディスプレイには簡易フィルムが貼られておらず、既に小キズが少しありました・・・ なので早期保護フィルム購入は必須となります。 ●先に告げたようにスピーカーは音量が大きいとは言えず、最大にすると音が割れプリセット音源も物により聴こえるものと聴こえづらい物の差が大きく簡易的な物と考えたほうが妥当です。 ヘッドフォンや外部スピーカーに繋げて使用すればクリアで大音量にもなるので必須と考えたほうが良いです。 ●良い点=現代であえての電池駆動（DC電源にも対応してます） これは昨今のバッテリー火災の懸念も挙げられれば、将来的にバッテリーの経年劣化や消耗などからも電池駆動のほうが長期的利用を考えた場合にはメリットと感じます。 不便さはやはり否めませんが、エネループなどを常備すれば良いし、少なくとも私がこの世からいなくなるまでは電池は存在し続けると思えるので。😂 とまぁまだ触って数時間なので現在はこんな感じですが、また何か気づいた部分があれば追記したいと思います。 最後に私的にはデザイン、仕様、操作性、携帯性など多くを含め大満足で、比較的新しいメーカーでありながらしかも日本製です！（製造は主に中国かな？） トランプの関税によりアメリカへの輸出は停止となったらしく嘆かわしい限りですが、このメーカーが今後も良い製品を作ってくれると願うばかりです。 追記ーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーー まだ使用してから一週間も経過していませんが、不具合が見つかりました。 それはセンドエフェクト機能という主に環境効果を与えるものなのですが、タイプ変更しても数値を変えても音に変化が現れません。 他のエフェクト機能は反応しており、ソフトウェアというよりもハード的問題なのかと・・・ 気に入った製品だけに初期不良はとても残念と思いましたが、早速Amazonに返金、交換対応をしました。 これは製品管理の問題か、または日本企業でも製造が中国などだと管理不足にもなっていたということでしょうか？ なので★を一つ減らさせてもらいました。 交換品は大丈夫でありますように！！
