I was pleasantly surprised to see how well compacted this package of filler was. There is definitely a lot more material in there than I had anticipated. I was able to use it for approximately six gift baskets, and still have probably enough for eight more. I was able to corral it all into a large Ziploc bag, and save it with my gifts wrapping supplies. It was the perfect match to my gift baskets and gave an error of professional quality. I would not hesitate to purchase again.

I got this for two reasons: packing and photography background/prop.I needed to take pictures of a bunch of colorful eggs in a basket, and this made a perfect "nest" to put the eggs into. It was a perfect background color, and cushioned the eggs perfectly.I also needed it to ship some eggs, and this material was used as a layer between the wrapped egg carton, and the outer box. It did a great job with that too.The material is soft and springy, it doesn't have big chunks in it. It smells fresh, like cut wood. It's not sticky with sap or dampish. Really a nice product.The only thing I would change is for the option to buy a larger quantity for a discounted price.

Pros:—pleasant color—seems nice and clean and dry—lots of nice long strands, not a ton of chips—has a familiar, clean animal bedding aroma, but mine is less pungent than those pine chip bedding bags I remember as a kid—it's really compact, so a little goes a long way! I received more than I expected since it's really stuffed in there. You can see that to line the bottom third of my cube basket, I only took about three inches worth of excelsior out of the bag.Cons:—I imagine that it won't be a common experience for everyone, but remember that this is still wood and I did get a very little, easily-removed splinter as I tried to wrestle some out of the package. If you're concerned, maybe use gloves.—this isn't a surprise to me, but it's a little messy. It was easy to clean up with a lint roller.Final thoughts:Also, it's not really a pro or con, but the package says it's spruce wood in case you were wondering. If you're looking for an excelsior that has moderately thick ribbons of wood, give this one a try!
