Brain Quest Learn to Write: Letters

We try to keep doing school work through the summer and this was the perfect addition to our collect for this year.

My kid and I find these kinds of books easiest to work together on. Kudos to you parents with independent learners, but I have to work along side mine. I find their stuff the most satisfying for me and my kids.

I got this for a child who is older but wanted to work on improving their handwriting.This book has one page for each capital and lower lower case letter, then 17 pages of mixed review, a certificate of completion, and three pages of stickers.The instruction pages include traceable letters with numbers and arrows indicating the right way to form each letter, along with a few lines of practice. I feel that the instruction for writing each letter is adequate, appropriate, and standard for the United States.I feel like, if this is intended to be used as a complete learning to write resource, there should be more practice of prior letters integrated along the way. If you're doing a letter or two a day, by the time the child gets to the review portion, they've probably forgotten the earlier letters. More routine practice is needed for developing muscle memory. Therefore, I feel this would work best either supplemented with additional practice, or as a supplement to other resources, rather than as a standalone.While the artwork is aimed at young children, I don't feel it appears offensively immature to older learners.

My grandmother was a teacher, so I had similar letter writing books when I was growing up. These brought back some great memories because I loved learning letters, and now I'm excited to be teaching my little one soon. The first several pages focus on tracing each letter of the alphabet and provide about 1.5 lines to draw them freehand. I will say that I wish that there was more space for that. But the page has imagery to go with the letters. Take for example the letter C. It has both upper and lower case, and the pictures include cats, cookies, a car and a cow. Once you complete all of the alphabet, the last section of the book has full words to trace over the letters. I'm someone that hates writing in nice books, so I plan to get some plastic overlays to tape on the pages so my daughter can practice with a marker (and that way my other little one can use these books when ready in a few years too). The last 3 pages have some cute alphabet stickers as well that can be used throughout. This is such a nice book to get started with!

BrainQuest's products are, I think, always thoughtfully made. This is no exception.There are many workbooks out there for praciticing writing letters but this one stands out. In addition to pages for each letter in upper case and lower case and periodic review pages, there are also pages afterwards with "games" like matching letters, tracing words connected to the illustrations and a place to practice writng one's name.Once the child is done there is a certificate and then three full pages of stickers.The workbook feels nice in my hands -- it is not flimsy. Nor are the pages thin. But this is a colorful, nicely designed workbook that hopefully will impress any young child,

I have several books like this to help my three-year-old begin learning their letters and numbers. This one makes a nice addition. It is really nice that it comes with extras to motivate him on the last few pages. Repetition is the best way to learn something so the fact that it comes with multiple rows to practice each letter is great. Being so colorful is also nice. So many of these workbooks come printed on cheap pulp paper and while this thing isn't bound like a luxury item, the fact that it isn't bare bones makes it more engaging to little eyes that have trouble keeping attention.

This book has a page for each upper and lower case letter. There's space to trace and space to write each letter on one's own. There's a few activities at the bottom of each page, like circle the picture that starts with this letter. After the first 52 pages, there's a few where you can practice writing the names of animals, colors, the whole alphabet on a page, etc. The pages do not tear out easily, no perforation for example. I like the Brain Quest products and this one is pretty good. There's a colorful, cartoony certificate at the end, dozens of stickers (mostly of each letter) and a few advertisements for their other products. If your child starts letters in the wrong spot, or makes their lines and curves in the wrong order, you'll want to supervise. The book has the step by the step instructions for each letter, but this is not a solo practice book if the child has already developed contradictory writing habits.

We love Brain Quest! It is a trusted brand that has been around for years. I knew this would be a great book and I was right. My 5 year old granddaughter loves it when I print out work sheets for her so I knew this book would be entertaining and perfect for her. She absolutely loves it. It helps her practice her writing and perfects it. I love that it has more than just one or two examples for the child to trace prior than having the child try the letters on their own. The multiple tracing is imperative for them to develop on how to write the letters. She loves coming home from school and using this book as homework. It helps keep her focused and motivated to learn.
