I need to know what is the correct size for an adult beginner

Hello. Thanks for your message. For an adult, the standard size is a Full Size classical guitar. However, you can use a 3/4 size, as these can be more manageable for beginners who are new to the guitar.

Can the strings be replaced with strings other than nylon?

No, absolutely not. Steel strings have much higher tension than nylon strings, and this guitar is not designed to take such tension - no classical guitar is. You will end up with a ruined guitar with a very bent, or even broken neck.

Is full size good for a 5”4 13 year old?

Yes I should think so. I bought a 3/4 size for my grandson (who is a big 6 year old)and I ‘tested’ it first. Lovely guitar for learning on, stayed in tune, easy to play and amazing quality for the price. He finds the 3/4 a little big but he is young and much smaller than your 13 year old.
