Desert Gold: A Dane Maddock Adventure Paperback – April 28, 2023

Another great adventure with Maddock and bones. This is a quick read and it moves at a fast pace. I can't wait until the next book.

The story was decent but felt way too short. So much more depth could have been added. So many side trails left in taken.

This was definitely Bones and Maddock light. Much less substance and more biting humor from nearly the entire cast of characters, not just Bones and Maddock. Not one of my favorites.

I've read all of David Wood's books and this has to be the worst one of all. He's a prolific author and I have always enjoyed the Maddock books but this one reads like a rough outline for a book yet to be written. It is full of plot holes, Characters who know things there is no way they could know based on the info they have at the time, juvenile potty humor that is frankly insulting to the reader and a real embarrassment to the author. How did this ever get past an editor or did he just self-publish this one? It's truly awful. The only reason I finished it is because I have a rule about finishing any book I start - maybe I should revisit that rule... Thankfully, the book is quite short - another reason to think it is only a very rough outline barely thought through by a normally gifted author. David Wood, you should be ashamed.

Seriously, this book makes Go The F To Sleep look like a Hemmingway novel.
