Booby traps and ancient gods!!!
In my opinion, there aren't enough horror books written using the pantheon of Egyptian gods and ancient tombs. So, of course, when I come across one, I get excited. I am even more giddy when it is written well! This has a little bit of Indiana Jones, a little bit Mummy and a whole lotta heart with an original storyline. I wanted MORE! But, I have a feeling this was just a teaser for everything Dan Franklin has in store for us. This book felt like him testing the waters and let me tell you, the water is FINE!!! We want MORE and we want it NOW!

What an excellent read
This was a quick read full of claustrophobic tension and gore. Not a bad read at all. I recommend it if you've got a couple hours to spare.

Great horror novel
My favorite books of the 70s & 80s were mainstream horror, from The Exorcist to Koontz and King. They were a nice break from the responsibilities of work and married life. Around the mid-80s, a small, local bookstore began carrying British pulp horror paperbacks, which became my preferred reading for hour-long train rides to and from work. But, by the mid-90s, I had lost interest in the horror genre. Now, a decade retired, and moving, my wife and I came across boxes with many of my old horror books. Along with King and Koontz, I found McCammon’s 9 early horror paperbacks (They Thirst, Swan Song, etc), British pulp horror by the likes of James Herbert (The Rats); Guy N. Smith (Crab and Werewolf series); Harry Adam Knight (The Fungus, Carnosaur, etc); and lesser-known horror novels like Panzer Spirit (Tom Townsend), Blizzard (George Stone), and The Wolfen (Whitley Strieber). I’ve been re-reading and enjoying them. Fun reads, if you can find them. The Eater of Gods:Having been impressed by the quality of a Cemetery Dance SK special edition I own, I ordered a PB of The Eater of Gods from Amazon and was not disappointed. The quality of the paper and binding was great. The print was clear and easy to read, even with my bad eyes. The Chapter title pages even had a column of Hieroglyphics running down the inside margin of the page. As for the story, it was an easy and fun read. I can’t remember ever reading another horror novel involving exploration of a cursed mummy tomb. As with good, short horror novels, it grabs and holds your attention. It also gets claustrophobic and graphic in spots. I hope to see more from this author. My biggest pet-peeve with modern books is the sad quality of the paper and print in today’s HC/PB books. It's gotten so bad that I don’t even buy new books anymore, except those from specialty publishers. I still own a $.50 paperback of Thurber’s My Life And Hard Times that I bought in high school in 1961. I’ve read it many, many times over the years. The pages have yellowed, but the spine still has no creases, and the print is still clear. I bought my wife a new best-selling HC this month, and even she complained that the print was ok on some pages, but too light and blurry on others.

just WOW
Just burned through this in one sitting. It’s an absolutely monumental tale packed into so few pages that it boggles the mind. Since it’s so short, I don’t want to give away too many details, but if you’re into archaeology, long lost tombs, and a strong emotional current. This is a story for you.Dan, this story made me feel like I did the first time I read Lovecraft. Well done.

Fascinating story.
This was a really good story. Characters have depth and are relatable, the writing is great. I thoroughly enjoyed this and I would reread it. It has a creepy atmosphere, and it is definitely a horror book, but it's also strangely sweet. Definitely recommend it.

Curses and traps and hopelessesness, oh my
An ancient forgotten tomb, traps, supplies running thin, time running out and a of course we can't forget the curse. A wonderful Indiana Jones type story but not so happy-go-lucky. It is well written and has good character development. I really enjoyed this book, it's a very fun escape. Please give it a read, you won't be disappointed.

Not at all what I expected, but enjoyable.
I genuinely LIKED the characters and wish the book was about 300 pages longer so I could have fallen in love with them. The story was a cluster of commonish troupes but uniquely spun to create a unique tale.Well done!

Kiya-Aten...Kiya-Aten...Kiya-Aten
Tense and atmospheric, sinisterly creepy, filled with intrigue and wrought with expertly crafted heartbreak and emotion. A breathless, haunting, yet fun read. Highly recommend.

Amazing!
The story was a bit slow to start but boy, once it got going, it went. What a beautiful story too. Loved it!

Interesting but falls flat
The Eater of Gods has been getting some glowing reviews and hype especially on the Facebook group "Books of Horror". I thought the premise sounded interesting and it's short so thought I would love this.I felt it was just ok and pretty forgettable. It reads more like an adventure story or Indiana Jones knock off but not really in a good way. The characters other than Norman our protagonist are not fleshed out and little is known about them. Norman gets a bit more character development however I didn't really connect with him either. Our characters from a university go to seek out the long lost tomb of Kiya a lost Queen of Akhenaten who has been erased from history. They are warned by locals not to attend however ignore this advice. They become trapped in the tomb and not is all as it seems. The action is average and very little tension as the characters are there in name only so I did'nt really care what happens to them. Its predictable but written well for a first time author. It just wasn't for me but I'm not upset I read it just found it to be average and glad it was short.

An unexpected delight!
I really enjoyed this ride, a gutpunch of an ending and creepy imagery. A quick read that kept me wanting to pick it up again as soon as I took a break. Will definitely be checking out more of Dan's work!
