Cambrass is always thinking about your baby’s health and is one of the largest manufacturers of Tencel products for babies in Europe. Tencel fibres protect your baby against skin irritation or allergies. As it is a natural fibre, the lime in the water does not stick to it, which keeps the fabric soft. It will not shrink or wrinkle and is very easy to maintain. Tencel Was first manufactured in the 1980s by Courtaulds Fibres in Coventry, UK at its UK pilot plant in Grimsby. The process was first commercialised at Courtaulds rayon factories in Mobile, Alabama (1990) and then at the Grimsby plant in 1998. In 1998 Courtaulds was acquired by Akzo Nobel, who combined the Tencel division with other fibre divisions under the Acordis banner, prior to selling them off to private equity (CVC Partners). In 2004 CVC sold the Tencel division to Lenzing AG, who combined it with their "Lenzing Lyocell" business but maintained the brand name Tencel. Lenzing AGcite_ref-Lenzing_2-0cite_ref-Lenzing_2-0 is currently (2013) the only major producer of Lyocell fibres. What is Tencel? Tencel fabric is an amazing eco-friendly fabric that represents a milestone in the development of environmentally sustainable textiles. Tencel is a natural, man made fibre which is also referred to as Lyocell. Made with wood pulp from sustainable tree farms, Tencel textiles are created through the use of nanotechnology in an award-winning closed-loop process that recovers or decomposes all solvents and emissions. It is certified by the international Forest Stewardship Council and 100% biodegradable and perhaps the greatest benefit is the variety and exceptional comfort you can experience with Tencel clothing.Eco footprint Tencel is made from cellulose in wood pulp which is harvested from tree-farmed trees. Cellulose is the natural polymer that makes up the living cells of all vegetation. The tree farms have been established on land unsuitable for food crops or grazing. It is produced via an advanced 'closed loop' solvent spinning process, with minimal impact on the environment and economical use of energy and water. The solvent used in the process is toxic but 99% is recovered and continually recycled. Production plant emissions are significantly lower in comparison to many other man-made fibres. The fibre is economical in its use of energy and natural resources, and is fully biodegradable.Colour Rich The process used to manufacture Lyocell fibre does not require bleach, which is commonly used in the production of other fabrics. Tencel/Lyocell products contain no free chlorine and are sold as "TCF - products". The European Union awarded this process the Environmental Award 2000 in the category "technology for sustainable developments". Tencel was created with colour in mind, because of the fibres’ high absorbency. The fabrics can be dyed to high quality standards. Moisture Absorbent This eco fabric has natural breathability and 50% greater moisture absorption than cotton.Anti-bacterial Due to its moisture management, Tencel is also anti-bacterial.Feel of Fabric Similar to rayon in feel, it is soft, breathable, lightweight and comfortable. Tencel has an extremely smooth soft surface that drapes beautifully to flatter every figure.Great for sensitive skin, Tencel’s smooth fibre surface feels soft and supple against the skin and its incredible wicking abilities keep the skin dry, making Tencel a great fabric for sensitive skin.
