Compressport Calf guards.
I am no expert or budding age group athlete, but following cramping on a half iron distance event, I decided to look at investing on calf guards to maybe help with my problem. After reading countless technical write ups on benefits to my wellbeing in using compression products, and quite frankly only understanding only a portion of what they were saying, I opted for the compressport R2. This seemed to be a popular brand with the man on the street as well as elite athletes, reading many good reviews on the product I made the decision (although not the cheapest on the compression market by far) and ordered them.At present I have only used them for a number of training sessions and one Olympic distance tri at Eton Dorney, In honesty they feel pretty much the same as wearing compression socks (obviously) with the added advantage of already wearing them under your wetsuit. They feel comfortable, the sizing guide seems pretty bang on, as a whole feeling good throughout my runs and rides. I can't say definatively if these have improved any performance or muscle recovery, they do however seem to ward off stiffness on the later stages for distance running, and my drive home from the event wasn't plagued by the familiar fatigue in my legs.I do like this product and feel they are helping me and in this would recommend them to others looking to try compression within their sport, a good buy !!!

A revalation for an old runner
As I did a lot of long distance running in the 80s and 90s, getting under 2:50 for the marathon, I was sceptical of using 'modern' technology as I increased my mileage at 58 to train for ultras. I had read a lot about compression technology and eventually bought a pair of R2 Race calf guards. They are a revelation! My main problem was tired muscled below the knee and recovery from long runs. I had become used to the morning routine of the stiff legged hobble, slowly warming up enough to walk properly. After years of this, regardless of stretching a lot, I donned the calf guards after a 14 miler and forgot them. The result was fascinating. I had 'warmer' muscles and the aches in my tendons were all but gone. In the hot summer weather I tend to wear them after runs, and they are first class and does accelerate recovery. I wear them overnight on occasion and can move freely. I have worn them for long runs and they are great, but I will use them more in the colder weather - a boiling day causes sweat to dampen my socks, but if worn post run they are first class. If you are a sceptic, try them. You will not be disappointed.

Hurray - these WORK!
These are brilliant. I am a mid-40's female who runs 2 miles each way to work wearing a rucksack to avoid the tube, plus a run of up to 10k on a Sunday, & I've been suffering from repeated calf pulls. No matter how much I rehab - rest, stretch, gentle re-start via the treadmill, start walk-run-walk to work etc - as soon as I start running all the way, it goes again. Not always the same muscle, either. Since getting these, within a few weeks I'm now doing my usual 4 miles my usual 4 times a week. Sometimes the muscles get a bit fatigued-feeling - but they don't pull. Hurray! I can't describe how relieved I am because I genuinely thought that I was finished as a runner & was reluctantly investigating folding bikes. I'm miserable when I can't run & don't feel like myself, & it's such a relief to get going again. I was pretty much fully up to speed again this morning.

These work too (again, for me anyway)
As per my review for the Neo G calf support, I had a calf strain, occurred for no apparent reason, I was nervous after my obligatory 4 weeks rest and looking for a support to wear until I was sure that the calf was ok (I'm in my 50's - you have to look after yourself !).I purchased a Neo G support from Amazon, this worked brilliantly, but was a bit bulky (reviewed). No problems whatsoever with these calf guards, they work a treat. Great compression and feeling of support. If I was the gurney type, I could go on about them being hard to get on and off - they are meant to be tight, the clue is in the name. They are thin enough to be worn under leggings, look like funky knee socks on bare legs.I wear them every run now - no more stiff/sore calves. Nuff said.

Saved my Marathon Training.
Changed the way i run, simple as that!! I was training for the VLM2016 and was having very painful shinsplints and tightness from my long runs, to the extent where i had to stop for a week, despite foam rolling and all the usual ways to restart the legs. Put these on during and after training (both short and long runs) and in combination with good leg recovery stretching the issues did not return. They have taken me through many miles and continue to do so, if you size your calf correctly they are not to tough to get on and flexible enough to get off and retain there fit, would bu again without hesitation, thanks for the save!!!

be honest with the sizing - great item - buy them!
Spent a lot of time deciding, do I go cheap, or get the proper one's well i'll save you the time buy these, they are great! and they make you look like you know what you are doing.... in regards the size be honest measure the calf and go for the best match- yes they feel tight, but they are compression items, that is to be expected.. they are a pain to get off, but that's because they fit tight. doh! overall i'm impressed and wear they almost every run now, have improved my calf and shin pain - perhaps its partly mental - but take all the help you can to run and feel better , also wear the little ankle socks with them, not long socks

Good but not for uneven calves
I found these very useful after sustaining a calf injury however I believe it has uncovered a fate worse than death - uneven calf size!!!Maybe my calves have grown since owning these but now I usually find after a short run while wearing these the circulation has stopped in one of my feet. Now that my calf injury has gone I tend to steer clear of using them however they were in use for a good 6 months so cant complain.
