Handy sealing
ThIs vermiculite is in a bag with a ziplock style zipper. It is so handy to close and open and prevents spilling while mixing with soil in a pot.

What’s not to like about vermiculite? It does the job of lightening the soil for seedlings

Medium-large chunks of vermiculite to lighten pots or add to orchid mix
This vermiculite is a good addition to potting soil if you find your pots too heavy to move around easily, or your hanging planters too heavy to safely hang, because it is lighter than most soil blends. It can also be mixed in to seedling mix to stretch out the potting blend and it can be added to orchids to give them the air gaps they need. This can be used to aid in water retention, and is handy to have in arid environments. This would be a good addition to the potting shed or to the dirty area on your patio (if you are me) where you do plant stuff.

Good for most plants.
I'm a new plant mom after many years of not having any plants. But I decided to take up nurturing plants again so here I am. I got this vermiculite to add to my potting soil for plants that need to retain some moisture. There is very little dust in the bag of this vermiculite and that's good. There is a difference between perlite and vermiculite. I use perlite in potting soil for plants that need a dry soil, such as cactus and succulents. I use vermiculite in potting soil in plants that need more moisture, such as my hibiscus which is outside in a pot. The hot summer sun dries out the soil so quickly and vermiculite will help hold in the moisture.Perlite doesn't absorb water. It aerates the soil just like vermiculite but it doesn't hold any moisture. Cactus and succulents don't like moist soil. Even though this listing suggests using vermiculite in your succulents, I wouldn't use much if at all. I'd use perlite in those because it aerates the soil but doesn't absorb water or keep the soil moist. The exception would be if you're trying to root succulents from root cuttings. Succulent root cuttings require more moisture to spur root growth than already rooted succulent plants. This isn't a large bag. It comes in a Ziploc bag and actually measures 7" wide by 10" tall and it's about 2" thick. You can see in my photo the size of the bag that I'm holding.I can't speak how this vermiculite is for growing mushrooms or for reptiles because I'm not using it for that. But for moisture loving plants, it works well.
