I wouldn't think because of the exhaust fumes. It's built for outdoor use.

Would a hairdryer or straighteners work using this generator?

It depends on what rating generator you intend purchasing. I purchased the 3300 w as it will generate 3kw. This will boil a 3kw kettle, so should be more than powerful enough for a hair dryer and tongues.

Will this run a household vacuum cleaner?

I have not tried on my vacuum but I don't it would not work its good for 3 lights and a radio.
