Excellent For School Uniforms
My daughter attends a private Catholic school which requires her to wear black leather shoes. My child cries with any discomfort in her life(wimp). She plays very hard in these shoes, and had never complained about discomfort. She never complains about putting them on every morning (big win for me, because I have to dress her in the morning). In three months of solid use I have had to polish these shoes twice. They look brand new again after being cleaned and polished. Cons: 1. Velcro straps pick up sock lint and begin to look dirty after a week or so. It is pretty easy to clean it out though. 2. Not a much support as other Stride Rite shoes. My daughter has tripped over he own feet twice wearing these, and skinned her knees up pretty good Pros: 1. Breathable and cool 2. A 3 year old can easily put these shoes on without help 3. Durable 4. Stylish and perfectly complement a girl's jumper/peterpan shirt school uniform Conclusion: These shoes are a good value. I will buy them again when my daughter grows out of them.

Love them!!!
My 8-year old daughter loves these shoes and so do I. She wears them to school all the times and they still looks good after almost 6 months!!!. They're great with or without socks so she can wear them all year long. She runs in them and never complains of sore feet. When they are dirty, my husband polishes them and they looks brand-new. That's the advantage of buying leather shoes. This is probably my daughter's 5th pair of Mary Jane by Stride Rite and we've never been disappointed. This is a great pair of shoes. They are comfortable and durable and I would recommend them to anyone.

Nice shoes
The shoes are very comfortable for my daughter. She would say if they weren't! She has a wider foot and a higher rise. These fit great. I ordered Wide so they fit as they suppose to. My daughter does not love these for only one reason, that they are plain black. But they are uniform shoes so they need to be black. She also says that she feels like she is stomping when she wears them. I guess that could be a problem for a girl. They look cute and match everything, but I might like them more than my daughter. I would recommend the shoes to any girl.

Great shoes
I bought two pairs of these in the same size for the last school year and have been very happy with them. I don't know where the shoes would fall apart for some of the other reviewers, but they are pretty sturdy for my 5 year old. The only issue with them is that some of the leather scuffs up right at the toes and isn't much improved by using shoe polish. Judging from other students' shoes (different brands) at school, this is a normal, possibly unavoidable problem for leather shoes worn by active little kids. We live in the UK, where even basic uniform shoes cost more than these, so these are worth purchasing even with the scuffing issue. And I personally think they are much more sensible and comfortable-looking than the ones available here. Just ordered the next half size up and the half size after that to keep us going for the next year, hopefully. I should add that I had ordered wides by mistake a year ago, and although my daughter's feet are not actually wide (she wears M width in New Balance), the wides fit very well. So other reviews that state the wides are not truly wide are accurate in our experience.

Great Shoes for School
I've bought this shoe every year for the last three years for my niece. She uses them to wear to school. They match her blue and khaki uniforms. I love the quality and foot support of this shoe, and it comes in a vast array of sizes The leather uppers are soft and pliable. The Velcro strap makes it easy for my 7 year-old niece to put on and take off. She wears them at school from 7:30 am to 5:30 pm., loves the way they look, and says they're very comfortable. I'll keep buying them until she doesn't want them anymore or grows out of the sizes.

Nice shoes but XW too narrow.....From Very Sad Mama :(
I've always purchased Stride Rite shoes for my daughters. Stride Rite shoes are made well, last long and fit well. I love their shoes. My older daughter has extra wide feet and Stride Rite's version of extra wide always fit....until now. I just purchased the next size up from her previous Stride Rite shoes....when I open the box the shoes were visibly much more narrow and I was not surprised that fit was way too tight. I'm soo sad....she wears 12.5 XW. At this size range in any brand of shoes I don't have many dress/casual options for her.

1 month, and they already look well worn.
I bought these for both of my daughters (ages 7 and 8) to go with their school uniform. After only a month, they already look very worn around the toes, and the top of the foot has a permanent crease where I guess one of my daughters runs with her toes up. They have probably only worn them 10-15 times, max, as they wear tennis shoes many days! I would expect this kind of quality from a $20 shoe, but not for the price I paid. In comparison to the Hush Puppies brand mary janes that we had last year, these already look as worn after 1 month as the Hush Puppies looked at the end of the ENTIRE school year! (Yes, even I was surprised that a pair of shoes would last the entire year. They were getting snug in the last month, but they still looked fantastic.) I loved the Hush Puppies brand, and only did not go with them this year because I waited too long to order and they would not arrive in time for the first day of school. I thought Stride Rite would be a similar quality, possibly even better, but they are not...and the Stride Rite were more expensive! Lesson learned. When I have to order school shoes again, which will probably happen sooner rather than later, I will stick with the Hush Puppy brand that held up so well for an entire school year.
