No, they are not too soft. I am very pleased with this brush.

Yes it is very nice. It won't scratch the bowl. The bristles are silicon so it cleans really well but flexible and does not scratch at all.

Q: Does the handle of this toilet brush rust easily?

I have used it for two months without rust. I think you can put it in a dry place after use for fear of rust.

Q: Any cleaning chemical needed when using this brush?

It's just like a regular toilet brush in that regards, so whatever you normally use to clean a toilet you would use with this brush. I use Clorox's gel cleaner.
