Much more than I expected...
This was my first time reading this classic. It was much more than I expected. The author showed all sides of slavery; Slaves and their children, slave owners, abolitionists and slavery supporters. My take was "If you don't consider slaves people, you can justify and behaviors." Not once were slaves referred to as people, but as the N- word and "poor creatures". This book must have been ground breaking in 1850's.

beautifully written
Everyone must read this story!! Very educational, beautifully written and such an emotional journey. Loved it though very sad to read of the degrading treatment of other human beings but the main character shows an amazing courage, strength, hope and faith to get him through so many challenges, misery and heartaches. More people need to be like Uncle Tom in this world, so full of love and forgiveness.

……………FAITH, WRAPPED IN HOPE & LIVED IN CHARITY.
As a very senior reader, I found the book almost riveting at times. Perhaps closer to a 5* than a 4.If you haven't read it you - do yourself a favor & do!I've never criticized any reviewer until now! But, now, I must.(Even though we haven't seemed to have learned from it)…History is important. ....So, HOW can a reader come away feeling like an injured party because history doesn't reflecthis/her own perceptions??? …& uses the N word !!WHAT would they have society do? …abolish historical books - or, have them rewritten omitting any colloquialisms(the N word) & content that is different than theirperception? - Ridiculous, of course. It truly frightens me that any part of our present day society should be so naive (yet "educated"). Somethings very wrong!Possibly, OUR educational system isn't really educating...

Must read for true students of African-American history.
Good read. I have always heard about this hook in my studies but never read it. I see why it was so divisive at the time it was written a D why so many slave owners hated it. I applaud Beecher-Stowe for her courage in writing this book at the time that she did.

Powerful and heart-wrenching novel
Masterfully written with a quiet, honest and simple prose, this novel exposes the insufferable and shameful American institution of slavery, holding both the North and the South responsible for this abomination. Moving, touching and heart-wrenching novel.

Title error
The title of the book reads, Uncle's Tom cabin. The apostrophe is in the wrong place. It's quite surprisingly annoying.
