Jonathan Green (10515) Black Beauty Heat & Drought Resistant Grass Seed - Cool Season Lawn Seed (7 lb)

We moved to the Carolina’s from Ohio. In Ohio, we had Kentucky Bluegrass and the grass was beautiful. Moving down south, I’m not a fan of the centipede grass. You can hardly tell where you mowed and to be blunt-it’s ugly. I purchased this seed with hopes for our lawn to look like the Kentucky Bluegrass and it does (if not better). The seed sprouted within 7 days and by day 14 the area is absolutely beautiful. I plan on buying another bag to blend in with the centipede grass. Proper prep of the area is crucial along with watering. I aerated the area with our rolling aerator, put down top soil as the base, watered the top soil, spread the seed then dress coated the area with Miracle grow garden soil that I purchased from The Home Depot. The next morning, I watered the area pretty good then continued to water every other day. Water in the morning before 9am is best! The pictures attached were taken on day 09. Buy this seed! It’s 100% amazing! One last thing- I read reviews all the time before I make purchases. I promise that I paid for my bag of seed and was not given a bag to write this 5 star review for you to buy it. Sadly, I haven’t figured out how to be one of those customers who are given items to be tested for good reviews (hahaha)

Ive used this in the section of my yard under a tree that gets extreme sun exposure in the afternoons into the early evening and the grass has performed very well. The neighbors are shocked at the turnaround in my lawn after having used this product in a calculated way.

Follow the instructions- no short cuts, and you will see results. I had several bald spots as big as 3 x 4 ft. My soil is very hard and in a shady area. I used a garden claw to churn up the top inch or so, then put down a half inch of miracle grow potting soil in the bald spots, sprinkled in the seed, gently covered and watered it daily (we went a few weeks without real rain after Easter here in northern Kentucky) It’s filling in nicely. And I am buying a second 3lb bag to get the spots that didn’t get enough miracle grow the first time.

If I could submit 0 stars I would. Did everything to prep and ready the area. Watered regularly, almost a month in and no growth at all. Not one blade sprouted.

My lawn was originally seeded with PRye in the spring which came out great until it cooked in the summer heat. I reseeded (overseeded) with JGBB in late August. After a week with very little germination i added leftover Perennial rye to help with fullness, especially to areas that were still sparse after a couple weeks. It worked wonderfully! I don't think the JG seeds would have been enough to cover even an overseeding project. My lawn is only 750 sq ft and this bag definitely came up short. For the price i expected a better outcome without the need to add extra seed. Also, according to the label there are more weeds than usual for a name brand product. Hopefully the little KBG that is in the bag will help fill in bare spots. This was my first year seeding a lawn and the biggest lesson i've learned is to seed in FALL for cool season grasses! Spring seeding was a waste of time, energy and water just to watch the lawn get smoked in the summer heat. I don't think i'd repurchase the JG again unless the price was right.
