Easy set up and the unit runs flawlessly
I received the iGen 4500 about a week ago in order to provide portable power for our new 30 foot trailer. My wife and have tested the unit and found the set up relatively easy. I added the oil but errored and didn't screw in the small yellow oil stopper and gauge correctly and slightly overfilled the oil reservoir. You must be sure to screw in the stopper straight in order to get an accurate gauge reading of oil level. I had to use a bulb syringe and remove about one ounce of oil until the gauge showed that I had the proper amount of oil. My wife started the unit via the key fob and it immediately fired up and ran without hesitation. In fact, each start of the motor resulted in a successful start the first attempt each time. The instructions advise to run the unit for 5 hours at half or less of the stated capacity and we are 3 hours into that process now. We have kept the unit in the shade but despite the elevated summer temperatures of the low California desert, the unit is running flawlessly. We decided to run the RV air conditioner using the 30-amp outlet. We decided to purchase the gasoline single powered unit to contain costs and figured that gasoline is available everywhere and would suit our purposes just fine.Having heard many generators over the years, this unit runs relatively quiet and only modestly increased in volume when we ran the unit and about half its stated capacity. The unit provided consistent power to the ac unit with no problems. I did not notice any excessive heat and the unit sounded very consistent in a relatively low noise level. The retractable handle allows easy maneuverability, and I was able to move the unit and store it in the garage after each use. The controls and buttons and digital screen readouts are well placed and allows the user to easily monitor the functions of the generator. The unit provided clean power to run a television within the RV. We decided to purchase an inverter type for the RV as I have a television and expect to use various two-way radios and scanners inside the RV and the inverter type provides a better wave form for electronics. Other type of generators might harm sensitive electronics and circuits, so we opted for the inverter type with cleaner waveform generation. As per the manual, it recommends the purchase of a high-altitude kit (which I ordered) for use over 2000 feet. I'm not sure how 2000 feet is considered high altitude but I ordered the kit as many of our destinations will be at elevations over 5000 feet. I watched a YouTube video and it seems like replacement of the small fuel flow element will take quite a bit of work to open the case, remove a few parts and install the element. I will have to see how the unit performs at different elevations. Thus far, my wife and I are happy with the functionality of the generator and recommend others to purchase this unit.

Great purchase, quiet, lots of power!
This is a fantastic generator, very quiet. We use this to power our 30a RV and the sound is barely noticeable from inside the trailer. Super easy to start, and the included remote makes it easy to control without having to leave the RV. Plenty of power enough to power everything in our unit including the AC.We run primarily on gasoline, but having the option for propane is a great safety net when we're off grid.Highly recommend this generator!!

Overall, very happy with the purchase.
I've had this now for about 8 months. I followed the recommendation of other reviews and bought a drain extension to make changing the oil easier and cleaner. I installed this before I filled it with oil the first time. Ideally you should buy this before you need it and break it in properly following the directions in the included manual as you keep it below 50% power and vary the load. Upon the recommendation of another friend I changed the oil multiple times during that break in period. I found lots of metal fragments in the oil each time I changed it during the break in. Once I was happy with how the oil looked coming out I stopped changing the oil. It ended up being something like 8 times. Maybe overkill, but I want to help the motor as much as I can for longevity. It's primary function for us will be a backup generator for when we lose power. As such, I only intend on using the propane function so I don't have to worry about fuel going bad.I've only done the break along with the additional oil changes so I have around 18 hours on it. I didn't even use a full 20lb propane tank. That wasn't a full service load either, but I was still happy with the fuel consumption amount. I like that the noise increases and decreases with the load and that it isn't just this constant steady loud noise. It's very portable with the wheels and handle and makes it easier to get in and out of the garage. It's a bit heavy if you were needing to lift this up (into a pickup or up and down stairs) but not out of the question. This unit about the right size for us offering the power we need for outages. I like that it has different types of receptacles to charge and power a variety of things. While costing more than other standard generators its a good value for an inverter generator. The included FOB worked great and I was able to remote start the generator from inside the house. During inclement weather this would be a big plus.I can't really think of any cons except for maybe access to the oil drain/fill.Overall, I'm very happy with the purchase and it will pay for itself after the first multi-day outage we have by not having to throw away our perishables in the fridges and freezer. Time will tell on longevity, but so far so good.
