Many holes have been drilled laterally through the bat reducing weight and structural integrity, and some parts such as the tip and the holes are less finished with rough edges and splinters you can feel. The driving surface is smooth and curved to catch the ball and drive it where you want, and the long wrapped handle provides fine control whether using the bat either one or two handed. It is extremely light (just 1 pound) and easy to swing but nonetheless generates lots of power. I've not used it for match play, really just tossed it around a bit to get a feel for it, but it seems very well suited for its purpose. No complaints.
