Exactly what the title says - four features from Italian filmmaker Federico Fellini. Features I Vitelloni (1953), La Dolce Vita (1960), 8 1/2 (1963) and Guilietta degli Spiriti (1965). From the sharply observed account of the social mores of Italy in the 1950s in I Vitelloni, through the satire of a society obsessed with celebrity and sensation of La Dolce Vita, to the world of filmmaking in 8 1/2 and the exploration of desire in Giuietta degli Spiriti, Fellini's world is engrossing, fantastical, satirical and thoughtful, and shot through with his own preoccupations. They have won numerous awards (Palme d'Or and Oscar for La Dolce Vita, Oscar for 8 1/2 among them) and are filled with indelible images.. * Interview with Anita Ekberg * Theatrical Trailers * Photo Galleries * Digitally remastered from restored prints

Fellini
5 plus star. So often classics may be of poor quality; this is good.It tells you, [in Italian] that it has been restored AND very well too. It's evidently a multi cooperation. It's Fellini and on that basis you'lleither buy or not. Maybe for cineastes but hey try it; these 4 are classics.Delivery was prime next day.Have to say I've only played part of Dolce Vita couldn't wait fresh from post.On that basis it's great. Just look at the cast! EVEN Lex Barker [of Tarzan!]You'll even hear Arrividerci Roma - the original. It's, of course |Italian sub titled] . It's, of course, B/W.|It's Totalscope? which means OK for 16/9 with a little black bandingtop and bottom. Recommended.Four Films From Fellini - La Dolce Vita ; I Vitelloni ; 8 1/2 ; Giuliette Degli Spiriti [DVD] [1953]

Thanks for the memories
Saw them when they were new at the Arts Cinema in Cambridge, never forgot them. Good to have them on the shelf.

One disc displays only the first line of the subtitles
The films are all classics. That's why I bought them. But, for some reason, the disc for 8 1/2 displays only the first line of the subtitles on each frame, so the disc is useless to any non-Italian speaker. The print for 8 1/2 also is dull. These failings put me in mind of bootleg recordings. The print of La Dolce Vita, on the other hand, is excellent in quality and subtitling. Unless the 8 1/2 disc is corrected and replaced, I would recommend avoiding this issue.

Fabulous Fellini
Its ages since i last looked at a film by Federico Fellini. Has the old master lost his charm or visual flair, I wondered?Well, this reasonably-priced box set says 'No'.La Dolce Vita still resonates, especially in our world now obsessed with 'celebrity' while the moving account in Giulietta Degli Spiriti of a woman struggling with her husband's infidelity is as powerful as ever. The star of the show, however, is 81/2. This is Fellini's masterpiece, still audacious, hugely inventive and often very funny.Viva Fellini!

Amazing movies
To see these four films is to be given a deeper understanding of how film has developed over the last fifty years but also to have a sense of what has been lost.

Fellini buff
'La Dolce Vita' and '8.5' are probably the better known of the four but don't let that put you off. You can never have too much Fellini in your DVD collection.
