ALMOST A TRUMPETER KIT
Don't be put off by the low price of these Hobbyboss 1/48th scale Me 262 kits as they are actually pretty decent kits.I believe Hobbyboss are actually part of the Trumpeter company. The only differences between a Hobbyboss kit and a Trumpeter kit that I can see is the quality of the plastic and lack of extras in the Hobbyboss kits. The plastic seems to be slightly softer and the wing flaps etc. are fixed, no photoetch or rubber tyres etc. However they DO include a cleverly incorporated nose weight (as in Tamiya's kit) to keep the front end on the deck.I took one of the Me 262 series out of my stash and dry-fitted the main parts which seem to fit pretty well, better than expected actually.I'm not sure how accurate the details are but they look pretty good to me. I don't know if they'll suit the perfectionist kit builders out there but they seem fine, but then I'm not anal about exact details. To me, they seem like a fairly decent representation of a 262 and once they're painted and decaled then they'll do for me.They're also a decent size to detail if you're into that kind of thing. The 262 kit I started has separate radio compartment cover and separate radio components to mount inside, though I doubt you'd be able to see much of 'em.But it shows the manufacturer actually thought about these things when designing the molds.Another bonus is they're less than £15.00 quid GBP each, and I've had worse kits.... a lot worse that cost a lot more dosh. They'd also be great to practice your airbrushing skills (or lack thereof) upon.I haven't checked but there may be aftermarket parts from the usual places.I'm sure one could make the photoetch details fit the Hobbyboss kits even if they're intended for kits from other manufacturers. In summary: With the price of kits sky-rocketting at the moment (August 2021) you could do a lot worse than these more than half decent, sub-fifteen quid kits.I was quite impressed with the Me 262 kits I bought almost the whole series, for which there's around seven of them, different versions and variants of course. After all, they're almost a Trumpeter kit at almost half the price of a Trumpeter kit...... What's not to like
