After a few months of hiking, camping, and road tripping with the Marshall Emberton II, I’d say it’s become an essential travel companion. It’s taken a few hits and falls but still looks and performs like new this thing is built for rough trails. The rubbery, textured finish is easy to grip, so it doesn’t slip out of my hand, even with sweaty or wet hands. Its IP67 water resistance has been solid; I accidentally splashed it a few times near a creek, and it held up without issue.Battery life is another huge plus. This speaker lasted multiple days on one charge, which has been a lifesaver when I was off-grid. In real terms, I’d say I consistently got around 28 hours, close to Marshall’s claim of 30, even at moderate to high volume.Sound-wise, it’s been a blast. The True Stereophonic sound creates a fuller, more immersive experience. When sitting around the campfire, the 360 degree sound made it easy to hear the music from any angle, though it’s best for small gatherings. For its size, the audio quality is impressive, with crisp highs and decent mids. The bass isn’t ground-shaking but still delivers a satisfying depth that’s just right for outdoor listening.I’d recommend this speaker to anyone needing a tough, long-lasting speaker for adventures. It’s simple to use, with intuitive controls, and looks great both retro and rugged. I am very pleased with this purchase. It has that certain crispness of sound that sets apart good quality speakers from generic ones. I am not a total audiophile, but I do have a couple of cheaper little BT speakers, a tailgate speaker, and also a Bose unit, the non-portable kind with a remote and clock display that might be called a shelf speaker (?).I am very impressed with the clarity and quality of sound produced by this little speaker! Of course, if you need something that gets super loud, or has deep subwoofer bass, then this isn't the one for you, but no small portable BT speaker would do those things either. For a small BT speaker, this one has way better sound than expected. There might be better out there, but I am sure they would cost a lot more. I think this was a good value for the price.Once paired, this speaker connects quickly to the phone. Within seconds after turning it on, the audio playing on the phone routes to this speaker. So it is much faster to connect than the other speakers I own for comparison.There's one button on the top to control the power and other functions. There is also a phone app, but I have not felt the need to use the app. So far, it sounds good to me as-is. One unique feature is that the silicone sleeve around the sides can be removed and replaced with a new one. I was concerned about buying the white speaker, afraid that dirt or stains might eventually be a problem. Thankfully, if that happens, I can just buy a replacement sleeve. Or, buy one if I want this to be a different color or have a strap. I have also purchased a hard-shell case elsewhere to store this in. That's another good thing about this speaker, you can find cases advertised that fit it.My only slight complaint about this item is that when you power it on or off it makes a somewhat jarring electric guitar type of sound. Yes, that is quite on-brand for this company. I don't hate the sound, but I suspect a lot of people would.

I'm not a sound snob, but I think I'm a little bit of a visual snob. To my ears, it sounds great. I have a mini homepod in one room, but I wanted to try this in another. I think the Marshall sounds louder and deeper? But to make my point, I mostly got this one because it looks great on my bookshelf and I was most pleasantly surprised to find that the battery feels like it lasts forever!
