Great movie!
This was such a great movie and was true to the book (from what I remember from reading it decades ago)! This was a present for my 12-year-old niece and she loved it!

Wonderful coming of age movie
Very close to the book that was written by Judy Blume. A Beloved classic for young girls ages 10 and up. It and My Girl I think are the best two movies for young girls. The only thing that I didn't really like was some of the parts of the movie were a little bit different but I watched the extra stuff and they always checked with Judy that it was okay that they changed some of the details. She seems like a lovely woman. She lives in Key West and I think that is so cool. I have been there. It's a beautiful place but very hot...:). Watch it with your daughter...even some of my guy friends said they thought it was an excellent movie for girls.

I couldn't wait for this movie!
The casting is perfect for the characters, but the story itself doesn't hold up very well unless you have read the book recently. There is so much subtext that you feel you are missing the underlying action somewhere, leaving to you wonder what is the big deal about everything? She moved--but only to NJ, so why was that so bad? She instantly made friends before they even unpacked, which is unheard of. The school was no problem. She has a fantastic teacher. She has a wonderful mom and dad and a grandma who puts her first in her life. Money is no object apparently. She treats God like a cross between a genie and a verbal diary. Is there no one in her life who can talk to her about religion to give her some direction? If her teacher wanted her to write an essay about religion. wouldn't he give her some direction? After attending religious services, why didn't anyone walk to her through what she experienced? Also, they really needed to make the point of the movie even more clear: the Holy Spirit was guiding her all along. I hope viewers caught that! The whole period thing was too much for this movie and was almost cringe-worthy. It didn't take the comedy far enough to make the topic work, it was unrealistic--no one wants their period that badly ever ever ever. Also I wish they had brought in even more of the 70s. There were a lot of things, but there could have been a lot more! What about the tv shows? What about the music which helped define so much of our emotions as 12 year olds? There were posters on the walls, but they should have made that even stand out more. It did trigger memories for the viewer, and that made it truly enjoyable.

Thought provoking and lots of love!
Wow! Took me back to my early years! Loved the story line and actors and characters. Great writing. Everyone has the same struggles just a little different from each other. A pleasant way to see parenting back in the day. Life was a little simpler! I miss those days! Great storyline. It’s just life! Take it good and bad but one thing is we WILL be ok! Hope and faith is what we need!

Set in the 1970's but subject matter still relevant to an eleven year old.
As an adult, the earlier points of interest concerning parents and Grandmother's story line were soon dropped in favour of dwelling on the subject of a girls first period. It is for an age group that this topic would appeal to though so fair enough. Maybe I just watched too many trailers showing the best bits.I hope my younger relatives will view it and enjoy the film from their prospective.

Enjoyable
I've never read the book so I don't know how closely the movie aligns with the original story. I enjoyed this movie but Nancy's character really didn't appeal to me. Her dialogue wasn't believable and jarred with the other, more natural, speech. Not the fault of the actress, the script was weak. The overarching story was good though.
