A director who NEVER disappoints
I am a happy filmlover, having discovered Hirokazu Kore-Eda quite by accident. He posesses the art of telling a story along the lines of "Less Is More". He even manages to make the silences talk. In this day and age of special effects and films based on MarvelComics, his films are truly a breath of fresh air. This one is no exception. It has all the makings of a tearjerker, but thanks to mister Kore-Eda’s genius this is a very optimistic film. It certainly put a smile on my face ! He avoided all of the gaping traps of schmalz and delivers a film that vibrates with hope.I dare to be so bold as to recommend this film to everyone with a warm heart. You shall not be disappointed.

Likely based on true stories of child-trafficking
I am always interested in stories of adoption, especially adoption from South Korea, where my daughter was born. This film, though, was hard to follow and - like many Korean films - was just weird! (Think "Parasites"...). A salacious bit about the mother's activities as a prostitute added nothing to the film and took it down to an even lower level. Some of the characters were quite likeable, at least, but this was definitely not an enjoyable film to watch. The worse thing that could come out of it would be that the caring Christians who run the "baby-boxes" might come under suspicion of trafficking because of this film!
