The Valley of Decision

Really enjoyed the movie; the storyline is very entertaining. Lots of interesting characters and a lot of things happen. But I do agree with what I read from one other viewer: the audio in this DVD is terrible! If it had subtitles, that would have helped so much, but it doesn't. I had to blast some parts just to hear what was being said, then in other parts, turn it way down so I didn't wake the neighbors. Why is the audio so bad? My recommendation is to get this movie, but look for a different production if one exists.

This very well performed movie, starring the beautiful Greer Garson and the debonair Gregory Peck is virtually inaudible throughout the film. The re-mastering or production of the DVD is horrible. While I do not subscribe to book-burning, nor have I ever destroyed a movie, this copy will be returned for a replacement or credit or it will have to go to the trash pile. It is too bad to even re-gift! Had I not seen the move already, I would not have known most of the dialogue that was muffled and unintelligible in this DVD. Modern technology is too far advanced to produce such poor quality DVDs. Shame on whomever it was who did not take time to review the product before packaging and sending. My only hope is that others, who purchased this wonderful film, received a better copy than I did!

THE VALLEY OF DECISION is a SUPERB romantic classic! The primary cast (Garson, Peck, Barrymore, Crisp, Cooper) were beyond awesome and the secondary cast was excellent. The romance between Mary (Garson) and Paul (Peck) was so believable and so sweet. I enjoyed watching not only the developing romance between those two, but the reciprocity of love between the Scott family and Mary Rafferty. The story line pulled me in so much that when the bloody strike occurred, I felt a pain in my heart! Themes about love, devotion, loyalty, choices, wealth, and poverty.... run thick through the film. By the end of it, I was cheering!

Was a little worried based on mixed reviews. It is to bad they don't make a real good copy of this movie because it is so good. Ours played fine, but you can hear that the volume fluctuates a little. We like watching TCM and some of those have some imperfections as well. If your real, real picky, you might not like this, but if you like Gregory Peck and Greer Garson, you will enjoy this movie. To me it was worth the gamble and it paid off. We have a inexpensive blu-ray,DVD player and it was fine.

My DVD arrived promptly. So happy, I fell in love with this movie after watching it online. I just had to add it to my personal DVD collection. This is a must have for any Gregory Peck fan. He's so incredibly handsome in this film. The romance with Greer Garson really pulls at your heartstrings. This film exemplifies enduring love. The DVD is perfect and the sound is clear as a bell.

Was much looking forward to film after recently reading the entertaining blockbuster novel from the early 1940s. Leonard Maltin had given movie three and a half stars. Unfortunately the poor sound track rendered much of the dialogue virtually incomprehensible and unlike many DVDs these days, even of old movies, there were no English subtitles. My wife and I, with considerable disappointment, gave up part way through the film.

I am a huge Greer Garson fan from a child and now someone who is 57. She and Gregory Peck are fine in this film, I love black and white films. The story line is good and the acting well done. Secondary cast terrific and this film takes the viewer through many emotions of ups and downs. I am so pleased to have it on DVD as it wasn't shown often on TV when I was growing up. A story of true love from the get go, enduring and long suffering.

Having lived for a short time in a coal mining town and later a town with a steel plant (in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia) I could easily relate to the story. It held a lot of authenticity regarding the steel making process, and the lives of the workers.The social stratification was still apparent in the hierarchy of the steel plant (and community) that I lived in in Cape Breton.The movie has captured the lives of the workers perfectly as 'The salt of The Earth' as they toil for a rich owner who is at odds with the Union. When the maid falls in love with the Steel Plant Owner`s son, the story ignites into a passionate love story which , as it reaches a climax will leave a lot of viewers teary eyed.This is a Classic story, and the acting is superb . It reminds the viewer how great the actors in those days were. I highly recommend it.

MGM version of a Marcia Davenport novel is made great enetertainment largely because of Greer Garson in the leading role. She was a fine and very watchable actresses with a lovely speaking voice and a warm and compelling charisma.

The sound for "The Valley of Decision" is so poor that I miss a large number of the words spoken, especially those spoken by actress Greer Garson. I am sending it back and I request that you please send me another DVD of this movie with normal sound.

The Valley of Decision. It was exactly as I remembered it. It arrived in good time. I would recommend this to everyone.

Terrific movie. Whenever you get the likes of Greer Garson and Gregory Peck with plenty of other Hollywood stars with a story such as the one in The Valley of Decision you will not be disappointed.
