Frustrating for old farts! Not for amateurs!
I bought this for a grandchild for Christmas. She loves this kind of thing and I thought she would enjoy it. They are a little steep in price and I must say, I was a bit surprised when it arrived in a tiny little 2.5 x 2.5 inch box, (From the pics, I was expecting something about double that size). I wanted to be certain I was getting a decent quality item, so I removed it from the box and started messing around with it to check quality and entertainment value. Well, we are now 3 days closer to Christmas since it arrived and I am no closer to getting back into that 2.5 x 2.5 box it came in. It is ridiculous how many times I have tried to fold it back into a tiny little square! To be honest, I simply feel frustrated with the whole damn thing. I even had ideations of tearing it apart and gluing it back together. (Then I remembered what I paid and I thought better of it.) The quality certainly seems decent. I am basing that on the fact that it didn't come apart yet and I think I have folded it every which way to Sunday. On the upside, my granddaughter is probably going to love it! She is just 9 yrs old, but will probably get it back in the box in 5 minutes!! So, I guess what I am reluctantly saying, is that I think the entertainment value is there. I still have 20 days to get some help (probably from a kid!) with getting this back in the box it came in. Otherwise, I will find a new box to wrap it in and keep the old box - so I can show the granddaughter how it looked when I got it. It is a little embarrassing that I have found this to be so difficult. But, I am trying to be transparent here and forewarn you that UNLESS you have some help from a genius (ok maybe exaggerating there), DO NOT take it out of the box to try it out if it is a gift for someone else! If they weren't so darn expensive, I would have simply just ordered another one and kept this one for my dumb self. ๐ EDIT: 01/24/23 - I did order a second one for myself (and company) Mind you, I did not even get it out until several days after Christmas. Today is the 24th of January and so we maybe had it opened 3 weeks. It has been played with quite a bit by kids and adults alike, however it is tearing apart at one of the seams. So, frankly we are a bit disappointed for spending $20 on something we thought we would enjoy a bit longer. After only 3 weeks, it is clear this one is not going to last much longer. I guess on the upside, $20 is really pretty cheap entertainment these days, when you consider the cost of going to a movie or bowling, eating out or any other activity. We probably did get at least $20 worth of entertainment, but still. ๐ข

Very neat. Kinda pricy
Very interesting. Little over priced though for what its made of and its function. Would still buy again

Kids found it interesting
It was an Easter basket gift. The kids (ages 7 & 10) seemed to enjoy it but not sure how long it will hold their attention.

A Pricey Toy that's Deceptively Awful
The product is a a well-built and well-put-together cube in its original position. That being said, it's deceptively small, less than 2.5 inches on a side. The component shapes are held together with magnets (but not all faces have magnets to keep them together during transitions). There is a slight danger of tearing, because we're restricted by the product's construction, which is frustrating and arbitrary. What faces are matching in decoration also is arbitrary. After a very short time, the product's design yields very little in the way of discovery or even understanding. We are not learning very much if anything. Put it on your shelf of useless nicknacks. It's a pricey waste of money.

Neither a "fidget" nor a "toy": disappointing waste of money!
The description and images advertised it as a fun fidget toy. It might make a nice decoration if you don't have enough dust collectors for your shelves and can get it into a shape that shows your preferred surface colors within just a FEW maneuvers. (To my eye, the colors are ALL mismatched, so I chose the one that had the most blue & purple surfaces in the photos & only ONE mostly orange side, which is the only side showing in its original shape.) Unfortunately, as confirmed by most disappointed 3-star-and-lower reviews, which I'd have read if I weren't rushed to buy other things I'd been wanting at Black Cyberweek prices, with this being recommended to me as an autistic fidget toy, the surface is made of PAPER/very-thin cardboard, making it fragile and prone to collecting fingerprints, while the magnets are "Ultra Strong," requiring a lot of force to separate them to change the shape. I managed to figure out TWO shapes that show the purple and/or blue sides, & now that I've read the 1-, 2-, & 3-star reviews, I'm glad I didn't try to force the magnetic sides apart. Things others have complained about were its size (plenty big for my adult hands; certainly not a fidget toy you could manipulate unobtrusively, & the magnets click loudly when you DO manage to make a new shape out of it without tearing it), excessive price, and fragility. It was about $10 cheaper for the holiday sales than it is currently. No way would I EVER recommend buying this as a fidget OR a toy for $25 or even more! In fact, if you give this to an autistic person, expect it to CAUSE rather than prevent a meltdown! I'm glad I read more reviews before trying to continue manipulating it as my concern about what I expected would happen if I had was confirmed. People complained about the "stickers," if that's what they are, coming off as well as the entire thing that's held together by the paper tearing apart & rendering it useless. The decorative paper or very-thin-cardboard surface are no match for the truly "Ultra Strong Magnets" that are very hard to pull apart. It definitely feels like, if I do try to force the magnets apart, the paper surface holding the whole thing together will just tear at any or all of the corners and edges while I struggle to get the patterns I actually LIKE (for which I purchased it thinking I could hide the orange side the way the blues & purples are hidden inside the cube when I bought it) to show on the outside. Contrary to the name, "Shishibo" is only a "box" when you first get--NOT a "fidget" and NOT a "toy." And (based on other reviews by people who bought this for kids & how I would feel if I'd received this back then) is definitely NOT "Fun for KIDS." Unless your kids' idea of "fun" is easily destroying expensive gifts. Don't throw away your money (it's not even worth the $15 I got it for on sale) unless you plan to leave it in its original shape for display purposes only when you can go to the craft store instead, buy some decorative paper, & tear it up much more affordably!!!

boring after a few minutes
I got this because it kept being recommended and had lots of reviews. But it is sort of boring after a few minutes. We had more fun with the jump-the-golf-tee game. I had a cube similar to this that had different andy warhol paintings depending how you formed it, but this is just colors. It is ok to fidget with for a few minutes, but then no one looked at it. I had mine for about a year, collecting dust and finally just put it in the donate box. Also, the colored part is really just like contact paper, so it gets creased on the seams pretty easily and I imagine with repeated play, it will likely tear there (mine didn't, but it seemed like it might.) For my kids (and adults) who like fidget things and handheld puzzles, it wasn't for us. Things like perplexus or find-it tubes are similarly priced and more fun for longer.

Amusing, but could be better.
Itโs amusing, but it could be better, after about 2 hours of messing around with it the sticker started to peel off. Iโm not saying donโt buy, but be aware that this can happen.

Returned
Cool idea but very small. Doesn't look like the size in the pics or videos at all. Too much money for size and the magnets are held together by thick smooth cardboard material. The corners were already fraying when I received it, it's display box was torn, and it wasn't in its own package in the delivery box.

Great
The quality is great as it is an original Shashibo product. But, it took a lot of time to come as it is an internationally imported product
