Q: How do you adjust ist to fit a 5" pot? The cage and seat of the arms seem too large?

The arms are flexible and can be bent and adjusted the jubilee clip will apply the tension to hold the cowl in place this pacific cowl will fit pot sizes from 125mm (5") to 250mm (10")

Q: does the mesh stay on even with solid fuel fires?

Yes, I we have a coal fire and it works fine with the wire mesh in place. The mesh is needed to stop birds entering the chimney. Regards Robert

Q: We have 4 chimneys - 2 unused and two with gas fires. Please can you cofirm that this cowl is definately suitable for the chimneys with the gas fires

I have this cowl fitted to a chimney that has a gas fire installed within the fireplace cavity. The fumes from the fire vent through the chimney and the cowl does not appear to inhibit this. The hood fits well above the chimney top and it is difficult to imagine that it would be detrimental to the functioning of the fire. There are similar products on the market that specifically state that they can be used with gas fuel.

Q: can you tell me how the bird guard holds in place please? The cowl fits ok but the guard just falls down over the chimney and we cant see how to adjus

One part of each leg goes inside the pot, the other on the outside. Fix the long strap around the chimney over the outside leg and bend up the outside part of leg over the strap. Look at the picture closely.
