Behind the Net: A Grumpy Sunshine Hockey Romance

Very cute
I really liked this romance. It had a cheesy setup and a somewhat predictable plot but that’s somewhat expected now for me in this genre and not something I hold against it as much anymore as I used to. It’s somewhat comforting and as long as there are still details that are surprising me, I’m happy.I liked both of the MCs a lot and really enjoyed their energy. The pining was a bit much sometimes but I really liked how they continued to support each other in various ways and helped each other grow. I liked the roles the side characters played in both their histories as well as their present and the mental health rep was a nice inclusion, both with its effects on the character suffering with its consequences and the impact it had on a family member.I originally started the book because I heard it was really spicy. It did take a while to get to that but once they got started, it got hot pretty quickly. I liked how their respect and support for each other was carried through in those scenes while also taking their fun attributes to a higher (hotter) level. Really fun.I’m looking forward to the next one and already have it downloaded on my kindle.

did not disappoint!
4.75⭐️This was my first time reading Stephanie Archer's work, and it did not disappoint. The tension between Pippa and Jamie was the most memorable aspect of this book for me. You could slice it with a knife. The mutual longing was so endearing. These two elements together will make the reader desperately want them to be together. It was crazy how spicy the spice was. I had to go over several of the scenes multiple times because I was so shocked by what I was seeing. I was pleased with Pippa and Jamie's communication.Jamie Streicher was such a grumpy character at the beginning, which I adored. I loved how devoted to Pippa he was and how he would stop at nothing to keep her safe. I adored Pippa and her positive vibes.I'm not sure what it is about the Grumpy x Sunshine trope, but it always gets to me. It's so lovely to watch how the grump begins to reveal their inner light when the sunshine enters their lives. It was really great to see in this book. They just perfectly counterbalanced one another.Stephanie Archer’s writing is so character-driven and she did such a good job at balancing spice, humor, and the hockey world. If you enjoy hockey romances, spice, a protective MMC, and the grumpy x sunshine trope, please read this.

“I’d buy you every guitar in the city if I thought you’d let me.”
This is a super cute sports romance featuring a Pro Hockey player and an aspiring songwriter who recently got dumped by her high school boyfriend after going on tour with him and his band.I think my favorite character is Pippa’s older sister Hazel just because of this line.“It’s not your body. Your coochie knew Zach was a colossal loser.”It’s so me-coded I just couldn’t help but crack up at this whole conversation.Something that made me not give this book a 4 stars: • The amount of times Jamie referred to Pippa as his “pretty assistant” like so many times in his head as if it was sexy but really it was just cringe. 😬• The way Jamie kept pushing Pippa away because he thought he couldn’t take care of his mom while also being in a relationship..?..?? I was confused about that one.Anyways, overall cute romcom and fast read.⭐️⭐️⭐️/5🌶️🌶️.5/5Give it a shot and see if you end up loving it!

Rich and full romance
I thought I was popping in for a quick cheeky read, but this is a full-bodied, pining, everlasting romance. Swept me up and kept me soaring. They both have so many obstacles but their relationship feels as easy as breathing.Pippa is down on her luck and tackling it with brute optimism. She snatches up the first opportunity available to work for the Hockey team that could lead to a full-time position. Unfortunately, its to be the personal assistant to the boy she’s had a crush on since high school. And wouldn’t you know it - he’s been crushing on her all these years too!The years of missing each other makes this insta-attraction feel more like a second chance romance, which I loved. It’s dual pov with the focus always being on the next step of their romance. From hiding it to avoiding it to fighting it to giving in… every phase is equally enticing. What stood out for me compared to other Hockey roms is how Jamie uses his intense focus positively. His characteristic mental strength, positive visualization, and self-belief comes from his career and he instills that confidence into Pippa. They both change for the better. Jamies had me reflecting on my own goals and big dreams by the ending 💙

Worth every penny!
I am not a reader; a book this long would typically take me a couple months to get through. NOT this one! I was done in less than a week! Stephanie Archers writing is amazing! So many layers to this book! Romance, spice, dream chasing, hockey! I couldn’t put it down! Find myself longing to read more of Pippa and Jamie’s story! I cannot wait for the next one to come in! Very impatiently waiting for more books in this series!!!

IM NOT A ROMANCE GIRLIE
Okays, as I said? I’m not a romance girlie! Honestly I can’t even remember when was the last time I picked up a romance book. I mean, it has hot? Oh whatever, I can get that from my fantasies and dark romances too, you know? But, I needed something light I downloaded this book just for fun…But it’s so beautiful! I want a Jamie so F bad in my life right now!!! Oh gosh, another point to the list of “what I want in a man” to discuss in therapy 😂😂😂It has a good background history, great 🌶️ scenes and so much grown of the female MC!I mean, I wish I could have a guy who believes in me even when I don’t and am on my worst… (specially if he is F hot, bossy, kinda sim and super caring)Just give a chance guys, it’s totally worthy it!

I love the book from page 1 !
First book of Stephanie Archer that I read and I loved it, I couldn't put it down.Jamie is a grumpy NHL player and Pippa is his live-in assistant, and you guess it they quickly fall in love.I love Jamie protectiveness toward Pippa and how he believes in her unlike her ex who crushed her confidence but thank to Jamie she believes in herself again. They mutual crush for each other in high school is really fun, they were so sure the other didn't know the other existence so they both act like they don't remember. The scene were they discover the truth is priceless.Overall their couple is amazing and I'm not afraid to say that's my relationship goal.

love this book and so glad to have my physical copy !!!!
love love love love LOVE!!!5/5 STARS ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️4/5 SPICE 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ (imo)Jamie & Pippa were the just the cutest. I related to Pippa SO hard, she was just fragile and Jamie really helped her to put her pieces back together. This book was such a pleasure to read, I just loved how Stephanie wrote these characters and how much they developed throughout the story! Pippa really became comfortable in her own skin, and Jamie brought down his walls. There was so much depth in the backstory for each character and you get a really good insight into why both Pippa & Jamie are the way they are and the battles they both continue to push through! The romantic intimacy aspects of this book were so well written and handled so well! It was so sweet to see Jamie and Pippa explore that side of their relationship together and Jamie was so unbelievably tender, gentle and of course HOT AF! 🫠Jamie sure is a quiet & stealthy dude but now we know where he lets it all out … 🤭I also LIVED for the snippets of other characters (Pippa’s parents, the doggo 🐶 ofc, HAYDEN?!) but also really grew to love a certain character… who was a bit of a jerk in the beginning! Also HAZEL is freakin’ hilarious! I love her so much and she’s officially my new spirit animal! Can’t wait for her book to be next!!!!! ⏱️Songbird & Bossy forever!!!!🎤 🏒
