Product Description Four years after an exorcism, another priest arrives to free a possessed young woman. Review "As a movie writer-director, William Peter Blatty is like David Lynch's good twin. He is eccentric, funny, original and daring but he also has a sense of pace, taste and restraint. Which is by way of saying that, full of both fun and thrills, this is one of the shrewdest, wittiest, most intense and most satisfying horror movies ever made. Blatty builds the tension with a skill reminiscent of Hitchcock's 'Psycho.'"-- Ralph Novak, PEOPLE Magazine "The Exorcist III is a better film than either of its predecessors."-- Vincent Canby, The New York Times

It’s what I was expecting.
The movie is known as one of the worst sequels ever made and I knew that when I ordered it. That said it has good extras and that’s why I wanted it. I’m happy with what I received.

Not as good as the first one, but it does its job
Really, the coolest thing about the first one, for me anyway, is the demon's voice. That's gone here. Not scary at all.She would have been like 17 when this came out, probably younger when they shot it. The way she's sexualized is kind of disturbing, definitely a product of its time.Anyway, I wanted to see Exorcist II: The Heretic, and now I have. Well done, Amazon!

Sequel To The Scariest Film Ever Made On Blu-ray
Scream Factory(along with Warner Brothers) released this 2-disc collector's edition Blu-ray of the controversial 1977 sequel in equally superb HD, porting over the DVD extras, but now including two audio commentaries on the original 117 minute version(by director John Boorman and Special Project Consultant Scott Michael Bosco) and also the alternate cut rarely seen until now, which also includes an audio commentary and extended still gallery.Much maligned upon original release, Part II has received a certain degree of re-appraisal for its ambitious philosophy about the nature of good vs. evil, and a more careful examination of its presentation which had often met with unintended laughter for its narrative and visual approach. Whether such revisionism is warranted or not viewer can decide, but there big ideas at work here, and a fine cast led by Linda Blair, Richard Burton, Louise Fletcher, James Earl Jones, and Max Von Sydow.Another must have for fans of the genre, and even the original film itself.

A Huge Dose of Nostalgia Helps
Okay, I won't even try to defend this film....it's horrible. I see plenty of positive reviews posted here, and my 4 star review will be right there alongside them....but let me explain. When I was kid, specifically a pre-teen/early teen in the 1980's, we didn't have cable, we lived in the boonies, I think the closest town of any size was about 25 miles away, so all we had was standard broadcast TV...until someone came up with this thing called "Super TV". It was like cable that you could get from an antenna, except it only had 3 channels too. They weren't named channels like HBO or Cinemax, they were just movie channels. And all three would basically play the same 10-15 movies every month, just starting at various times. (Hey, this was cutting edge technology in 1981/1982). So just after we signed up and began getting Super TV, what is the first film I tune in to see...."Exorcist II: The Heretic". Having never seen the first one, I had no idea what was going on, but it was an "R" rated movie...that I could watch at home!! That was HUGE! And as a 12 year old boy, I immediately fell in love with Linda Blair.Today, yes, the movie is simply awful, but I still find myself drawn to this film. I love how seriously Richard Burton takes everything, I love how the soundtrack sounds like it's possessed by Yoko Ono at times, I love the phony African sets that look like they are taking place on the old "Star Trek" TV show soundstage, the locust cam, the bizarre children's clinic with it's glass walls and kids pushing around giant plush lug nuts. The amazing mirrored apartment in New York city with the world's most un-safe balcony. And best of all that goofy strobe light metronome, headband thing. This film is a total mess, but it's one I like to re-visit occasionally. Not only were poor decisions made while making this film, it's almost as if they made the worst possible decision available with every frame of film shot, yet you can still see that at it's core, the film makers were really trying to make a good film, but end up with this colossal failure.

Why do people hate this movie so much?...
I HAVE READ AND HEARD OVER THE YEARS THE EXORCIST 2 WAS AND IS SUCH A LET DOWN FOR A SEQUEL. I WATCHED THIS AND I FOUND THE MOVIE TO BE QUITE ENTERTAINING. NOW GRANTED IT DOESN'T HAVE THE INFAMOUS PEA SOUP SCENE OR THE NOW INFAMOUS MASTURBATION CRUCIFIX SCENE BUT IT IS STILL A CLASSIC PIECE OF CINEMA HISTORY NOW HAVING BEEN RELEASED OVER 42 YEARS AGO EXORCIST 2 HOLDS UP AFTER ALL THIS TIME. ITS NOT GORY BUT IT IS DRAMATIC AND SUSPENSEFUL THE SCORE AND BEAUTIFUL AND THE PERFORMANCES BY LINDA BLAIR, AND RICHARD BURTON LOUISE FLETCHER AND MAX VON SYDOW ARE QUITE ENTERTAINING. THE STORY GOES REGAN MACNEIL LINDA BLAIR REPRISES HER ROLE FROM THE ORIGINAL HAS BEEN HAVING NIGHTMARES YEARS AFTER HER POSSESION. SO A VATICAN INVESTIGATOR PLAYED BY RICHARD BURTON IS CALLED IN WITH A RESEARCH SPECIALIST PLAYED BY LOUISE FLETCER TO TRY AND RELEASE REGAN FROM THE MEMORY OF THE POSSESSION AND THE GRIPS OF THE DEMON SET AROUND AFRICA AND LOCUSTS .

Great transfer!
Shout factory offers a great transfer of both the theatrical and home video version of this ridiculously campy sequel of the original masterpiece.

Watch the movie in full and read the stories behind it before saying it is terrible!
An under-rated classic which adds a new twist to the exorcist saga and is kind of a historic document because of the use of studio property and young Dana Plato's cameo as an autistic child, as well as the portrayal of the beliefs and practice of psychiatry in that time. Though the special effects were far from good by today's standards, and there were certainly some well-known problems with characters, plot, and more, I have to salute them for pulling off actually getting the movie finished and shown even though everything that could go wrong did go wrong in the making of this movie. One of my father's relatives was one of the Jesuits who was an "extra" in the first exorcist movie, as well as one of the actual exorcists who worked on the case which inspired the fictionalized versions of the first movie and the book. He said that someone or something didn't want that first movie made perhaps because of the "message" it would give to the public: things that seemed supernaturally-inspired would happen to hold up the production, for instance, fires would spontaneously break out on the set.

It's actually quite good
I don't understand why people crap on this movie. It's actually pretty good. Richard Burton is legit & Linda Blair is scrumptious. It's really well shot & kind of explains why Reagan was targeted by Pazuzu. The Scream Factory release has both cuts of the film on 2 discs & a reversible sleeve with the original cover art. I'm glad I bought it.
