We switched our family to Charlie’s Soap from Tide about a week after our son came home from the hospital because we realized our clothes (which had Tide residue on them) were giving him a rash. Once we made the switch, his rashes went away! He’s now 8 months old. Charlie’s Soap leaves our clothes smelling fresh. It also does a great job of getting out baby stains (e.g., poop, spit up) but does require pre-treating for larger messes. We also do a lot of laundry (at least 3-4 times a week) and the small bag lasted us 4 MONTHS. Insane how long this detergent lasts. In addition to the clean ingredients and eco-friendliness of this product, it’s extremely cost effective as well. This product was originally purchased specifically to wash absorbent reusable bedding and pads for our foster pets, including puppies and bunnies. The lack of scent, hypo-allergenic, biodegradable and environmentally friendly features coupled with the small amount of product required to thoroughly wash a very soiled large load is what first attracted me to the laundry powder. The outstanding results have made me a loyal customer. I love the small bag it is packaged in as opposed to the typical plastic jugs in which so many detergents are sold. Five stars for Charlie's Soap Laundry Powder. I use it to wash all of my family's clothing now and couldn't be more pleased with the results. No powder residue or skin irritation, the bed sheets don't require bleach and the towels come out fluffy and clean.

I was trying to get the scent of rancid oil out of some old clothes that I've had from back in the day when I used to use a lot of coconut oil and Shea butter as moisturizer. I wouldn't wait long enough for it to soak in before putting on my clothing so I ended up with this annoying smell that permeated everything. No amount of washing got rid of it until I started using the soap, which was recommended on some random internet thread trying to solve this problem. It's highly concentrated but still eco-friendly, and after a couple washes with soap and hot water I've gotten most of the smell out of my clothing, managing to save some old pieces I wasn't ready to part with. Works really well to get general grime and smells out of the clothes, but isn't heavily scented which I also prefer. It even takes the chain grease out of my partner's work clothes and the playa out of our party outfits.

Wow!! A friend told me about Charlie’s Laundry Powder since she was very sensitive to smells, even faint detergent scents I couldn’t even smell. One little most-of-a-scoop washed our funky towels free of whatever was baked into them! Clothes felt softer then ever, and everything was rinsing so much cleaner. Clothes don’t feel stiff, there is no residual detergent left to gum them up. I was skeptical of having zero scent, but I really like the no scent. I’m a convert!! Love this detergent!!

I started using Charlie’s Soap laundry detergent after getting tired of the heavy scents and suds from my old brands, and it’s been a surprisingly refreshing change. What really stands out is how simple the formula is—just pure soap, soda ash, and salt—so there’s none of the funky fillers or fragrances that give me headaches or irritate my skin. My clothes come out clean and soft without that film some detergents leave behind, and it’s gentle enough that my daughter’s eczema hasn’t flared up once since we switched. I love that it’s concentrated, too, so a little goes a long way, and the powder dissolves completely even in cold water without any gritty residue in the washer’s drum. Of course, it’s not perfect. Because it’s fragrance-free, you don’t get that “fresh laundry” smell that some people love, and if you’re used to big, bubbly suds, it can feel like nothing’s happening even though it’s working. I did notice that really greasy stains sometimes need a pre-treatment boost—Charlie’s Soap is great for everyday dirt and sweat, but I still keep a stain stick handy for motor oil and heavy food spills. It’s also a bit pricier per load than supermarket brands, so if you’re on a tight laundry budget, the up-front cost can sting, even though you technically use less with each wash.
