Kipling Women's Gabbie Small Crossbody, Lightweight Everyday Purse, Casual Shoulder Bag

Pictured is the Gabbie Small alongside its underdeveloped cousin, the Gabbie Mini, both in Nocturnal Grey. I purchased the Small first and liked almost everything about it except for the depth: at 6”, it felt like I was carrying around a little suitcase. So I looked at the listings for the Gabbie Mini and saw that the listed dimensions were only slightly smaller in length and height (1/2” and 1-1/4”, respectively), but it was only half as deep. A slightly smaller version seemed like a good idea, so I bought a Mini— and then laughed when I saw it. It is MINI. Like, really mini. It’s child sized.After doing my own measurements, I discovered that the listed measurements for each are misleading, at best. Apparently, Kipling’s measurements include the little flap of cloth that extends beyond the zipper to form part of the handle. But this is not useable interior space. For length, I measured from side pocket to side pocket. For height, I measured in the center of the purse. And for depth, I measured the width of the base. My measurements are (LxHxD):Gabbie Small: 11 x 7-1/2 x 5-1/2Gabbie Mini: 8 x 6 x 3Mini went back. I kept the Small. And despite my initial reservations, I have come to love it. Yes, it is a bit too wide and clunks against my leg when I walk, but it holds everything I need and more. And because it is relatively shallow, nothing gets lost at the bottom (my biggest complaint about larger purses). I absolutely love all the zippered pockets for keeping everything organized. My wallet goes in the larger outside pocket for easy access. My phone goes in the small pocket for ditto. (Granted, I have a smaller-than-normal SE IPhone. I’m not sure a larger phone would fit.) Papers and receipts go in the back zippered pocket. I stow my keys in one of the little side pockets, so I never have to fish for them inside the purse. The other little side pocket is good for lip gloss or other small things like that. (It will also hold a mini bottled water.) That leaves the interior free for bulky things like sunglasses, phone charger or IPad mini.I love having a place for everything and knowing where everything is. This is a thoughtfully designed purse. The only thing it’s missing is a cute fuzzy monkey instead of the inferior naked rubber one. (Why, Kipling? It can’t be saving you that much.) I took off one star because I still think it’s a bit overly deep, but I’ll just have to resist the temptation to fill it up. I also love the color— they call it Nocturnal Grey, but it’s really a muted dusky blue. So far, it seems to go with everything. I’m really happy I kept it.EDIT: One year later, and this is still my go-to purse. I love everything about it, including the depth, and have upped my star rating to reflect that. In fact, I even bought it in two more colors. I’m admittedly a bit of a purse hoarder, but all my others (including other Kiplings) have been languishing at the back of the closet since I got my Gabbies. What can I say, they’re just jealous.

Excellent bag has a large number of pockets, excellent quality zippers. Comfortable to wear on the shoulder and over the shoulder. It fits everything that I need to carry with me every day.

as per measurement defined looked like it would easily fit the iphone in the outer pocket however it takes efforts to get it in. I find that very inconvenient and defeats the purpose of a convenient travel bag.Otherwise cute looking, light weight and roomy enough.

I bought this so I’d have a good size day bag to use on a trip to NYC. I like that it smashes pretty flat when empty and is light weight, so it was easy to pack in my larger “personal item” size luggage I took on the plane.Plastic zippers are sturdy and chunky and don’t catch. Pockets are all useful—there’s a zipper pocket on the outside on the back/inner surface, two zipper compartments/pockets on the front, one small pocket on either end of the bag (slightly weird size, but I like them to store some lip balms/glosses upright), one interior zipper pocket, and a small open pocket/compartment on the inside (one is sized to hold a pen/pencil or two, one is a bit larger and can hold cards or maybe a small phone.) The big main compartment is roomy and holds a surprising amount; I easily can fit my phone, wallet, Kindle paper white e-reader in a case, full-size sunscreen, powder compact, a couple lipsticks, and a paperback book with room to spare. If you’re creative you could fit a change of clothes in there. The strap is super long and adjustable so it works cross-body or as a shoulder bag.The silver color is versatile (looks good with lots of outfits and doesn’t look too childish for fancier settings) and fits the current y2k fashion trend. Ape keychain isn’t the regular Kipling style but still cute. I was worried the silver color would wear off or look worse quickly, but with 2+ months of heavy/daily use it still looks great and I expect it will last a while.

Love Kipling bags. This is my sixth one. I bought this one because I thought the grey would be a nice neutral tone. It’s more navy than grey. I’m keeping it but if you want a true grey colour this is not the bag for you.
