This bread knife has some serious weight to it and feels substantial. It's a quality knife and the sharpness combined with the weight makes it slicing through things with ease. You simply just need to move it back and forth and the weight of the knife will do the rest. Still though, I do think the price of this knife is on the expensive side.

So big yikes opening the knife to find a big thumb print on the blade and slight smudging to the blade ridges beside it. I don't expect all knives to arrive in this state so please take this with a grain of salt. The knife didn't come cellophane wrapped or come with a blade guard. As pictured, you get the knife fitted within a cardboard "tray" thing and that all within the main cardboard box.The knife itself (after cleaning it thoroughly), cuts through a loaf of bread with ease. I'm able to cut thin slices from a bloomer loaf well. The ergonomic handle is comfortable to hold. In terms of design and build quality I have no qualms. I've removed 1 star solely for the condition the knife arrived in but otherwise this is a fab knife and very helpful addition to the kitchen.

Note: rather than being made direct by the US Westinghouse company themselves, this knife is made under license by the Westinghouse Homeware Co. of Hong Kong, so no need to worry about any mix-ups at the distribution centre sending you nuclear fuel by mistake!Ahem. The knife itself feels very solid as soon as you pick it up, with a reassuring weight to it. The handle scales are well-contoured and feel really comfortable to hold in comparison to a lot of other kitchen knives, and are shaped seamlessly around the tang with no gaps or protruding edges. There is a slight amount of protrusion detectable with the rivets however, although these aren't noticeable when just holding the knife normally. There are a couple of imperfections here and there in the shaping of the handle material but it is all blended together smoothly and you won't notice if you don't look for them specifically.The blade is good and sharp, which is obviously useful but does mean the knife needs to be handled with a certain amount of care. It will go through things nice and easily though, and the steel seems to be of good quality so I would expect decent edge-retention over time. I did notice that the etched logo on the blade seems to be slightly rough inside the letters, which picked up a few bits of fluff from the tea towel I used to dry it off after rinsing for the first time, so from a food hygiene point of view it would be worth keeping an eye on this to make sure nothing is sticking around longer than it should.One other neat feature of the knife was that its packaging was all-cardboard, thus fully recyclable. The inner packaging was in fact just layers of corrugated cardboard attached together with the shape of the knife cut out of them, but done with a high degree of precision making it snugly secure in the packaging.Overall, this knife is priced a bit above the usual base-range of supermarket-branded knives or the like, but it definitely feels like a good-quality utensil and should presumably give good service over a long period. Impressive stuff!

I have several knife sets for cooking and preparation some of which are expensive and others are relatively low cost, this knife falls into the latter category. I ordered this as my two other bread knives are fairly long and my wife finds them hard to use so this one is for her.My wife and I love my home made bread so a decent bread knife is essential and now that my wife has one to use I can rely on her to prepare our sarnies, lol.On opening, this knife is well made and for the price range it has a pretty good balance between handle and blade. Using this is very easy thanks to the comfort of the handle and the lightness of the blade as a whole while at the same time this carves through the slices quickly and cleanly even when slicing delicate homemade loaves.Looking at the handle, to me it looks properly riveted rather than just a look-a-like which is quite unusual for the selling price of £21.99 at the time of writing, so this does represent very good value for money.My wife now uses this on a daily basis and has no problems at all unlike with my other larger and heavier bread knifes.Terrific bread knife at a very reasonable price.Recommended.
