A must read
This is a must read. It's a great read for anyone who lives in this area, is curious about their heritage or has a desire to know the true history of Tamina. Beautifully told directly through the eyes of its residents. Each has a unique voice and a unique story yo tell. So happy that I heard about this book from Rita Wilks.

A fascinating local (to me) history
This is a beautiful collection of photographs of the residents of a freedman colony called Tamina, just north of Houston near The Woodlands, Texas. It is so important to record and share the history of black communities. They should not disappear in history.

The pictures are beautiful and the history of Tamina is enlightening
We moved to near here recently. I googled Tamina, Tx after reading about a tragic house fire there and among the results were articles on this book. The pictures are beautiful and the history of Tamina is enlightening.
