Best Price for Use
After looking at many clips for my downrigger I found this to be the best price and it is made well while working very well. It easily clips on to the downrigger weights and holds on very well. I clip my line about halfway in the jaws of the clip and drop it down to around 50 feet deep with a 6lb weight. I put a small amount of resistant on when I drop the weight but it still goes down pretty fast and the fishing line has never ripped off while descending. Trout are easily able to pull my line off even if they're on the smaller side. I use this for lake fishing and have only put my line in the first half of the clip. The jaws of the clip have a lot of grip to them and can handle a wide variety of fishing as long as you adjust your line accordingly. The length of the clip from the weight is longer than some but I do like this length. I have never had any tangle issues while using this product.

Good release, a little tight
I used a pair of these on Lake Shasta for trout and salmon at 80 to 100 feet and they worked well. Some of the smaller fish were not able to release the line, so I experimented with placing the line not so far back I the grip. That worked better but a couple times the line released before I got the lure down. So I just lived with the tighter release and worked a little harder to pop it when a small fish was on.

Like Scotty.
I find these easy to attenuate and the clasping strength is enough for down riggers going after lake trout and salmon in my experience. Sometimes the other heavier ones do not release and I end up taking a smaller lake trout on a sleigh ride without knowing it and I prefer these slightly smaller guys because of that. I suppose it is my inability to adjust the jaws perfectly on the others, but I don't care as these just work. Scotty stuff is very high quality and very tough materials of construction. July 5th, after fishing on Lake Superior July 3rd. Yikes! As a follow up, I must reconsider my comments about toughness. One of the metal rings came open on the end of the apparatus where it connects to the downrigger, (away from the line side.) This happened when I was pulling the set up into the boat so I was placing more tension than usual, but I was still surprised that it came apart. I guess I will continue the scrutiny of the brand, but also will go up in size for heavier fish as Scotty recommends. Still a 4 star rating but I always look for over-engineering.

Great quality and super downrigger attachment.

Holds good
I like these smaller ones, the attachment clip is smaller so you don’t have a big clip hanging out there. It holds the line just fine.

and never really liked the clip that canon sells
Bought a canon downrigger this season for fishing on lake michigan, and never really liked the clip that canon sells, it does work well but isnt as idiot proof as i would like, so i talked to a few guys i know who also do similar fishing and the scotty release seemed to be a top choice. Very easy to use, squeeze the clip place ur line in go .

Works as designed. Fun to use.
Works as designed. Releases the line when the fish strike. Adding the stacker clip so I can fish 2 rods on my downrigger.
