Since its foundation in 1930, CITIZEN has promoted a multi-cultural mindset that fosters excellence and creativity. The very name of the brand conveys a deep respect toward craftsmanship and considered as familiar by citizens the world-over. So as a “citizen” of the world, we bear the responsibility to help cultivate a culture of positive change and on-going evolution through our craft. We take that mission seriously and steadfastly welcome what the future may bring. As a true manufacture d’horlogerie, CITIZEN integrates a comprehensive manufacturing process from creating individual components to a watch’s final assembly. It’s an artisan’s approach to watch making based on pushing forward the boundaries of technology and leveraging our experience toward exploring new possibilities. One pivotal technological breakthrough was the development of a light-driven watch. CITIZEN pioneered this engineering innovation well ahead of other watch manufacturers as early as 1976, which led to the launch of the highly acclaimed Eco-Drive in 1995. Utilizing electrical power converted from virtually any light source, this extraordinary innovation changed forever the way watches could be powered. Eco-Drive eliminated the need to ever replace batteries, which made it especially beneficial to areas where such specialist batteries were not obtainable. This leveled the field for citizens of virtually every country to be able to experience unrestricted joy of wearing and using a CITIZEN watch. The product development policy, “The Fusion of Technology and Beauty,” remains a constant motivation for us to merge cutting-edge technology with perfection of design beauty, which as a consequence inspires people to strive to be their best at any time. CITIZEN launches a new campaign in collaboration with Wieden+Kennedy, Better Starts Now. This is the simple belief that no matter who you are or what you do, it is always possible to make something better — and now is the time to start doing it. We believe that better and now are both infinite, and that there is always a next ‘better’ and a new ‘now’ in which you can start pursuing it. It was clear from the onset of this project that we are dedicated to this ideal…not to the past but to the present, and all the way we can improve it. To help communicate this belief to the world we have created a new global CITIZEN brand movie, brand identity and brand website that represents out Better Starts Now philosophy. Avion is a vintage-inspired timepiece reminiscent of transatlantic flights from the 1950's. Design cues taken from the golden age of travel include the rich black leather strap with contrast stitching, oversized luminous numbers and classic day/date function. In a stainless steel case with black dial.

Excellent Flieger style watch
This watch looks better in person than in the photos. It has quickly become my favorite go to for everyday casual wear. It has a pretty large case diameter- I have a nearly 8 inch wrist and it looks good on me, but for men with smaller wrists it may look a bit too big, but that is normal for Flieger style pilot's watches. The leather strap is of decent quality, it looks nice and is comfortable to wear all day. Given it's large dial it is easy to read as would be expected. The printing is clean and crisp. It has lume on the hands only, but it is quite bright and lasts for a decent, but not great, amount of time. The second hand hits the second markers on the chapter ring nicely. Of course being an Eco-Drive (solar powered) watch, the battery should never need replacing provided it doesn't go an extended amount of time without exposure to light. Natural light is preferable, but man made lighting will also charge the battery, just not as effectively. All in all I am very pleased with the watch, especially at the $112 price I paid for it.

I've had several Citizens over the years mainly because they match otherwatch makers in this price range in terms of looks ...
I had about a dozen watches in my wish list and I would move some or remove some and add some, but this one stayed on the list for a long time before I decided to buy it.I've had several Citizens over the years mainly because they match other watch makers in this price range in terms of looks and quality, plus they have the benefit of Eco-Drive. I always hate taking out one of my watches only to find the battery has died and now I have another chore to make sure I get to someone I trust to replace the battery. With the Eco Drive watches I have, not a concern.I normally don't get the larger watches --- that's just something I've outgrown. But this one is an exception in that it doesnt realy look like a huge chunk of metal on the end of your arm. The way the dial is designed, it's got a slightly 3D look to it and that gives it an edge in its appearance compared to similar models. I like the "depth" of the watch face. There are thousands of watches on the market in this price range with similar movements and features, so aesthetics is the main factor, you know? The way the numbers are laid out is something you don't see everywhere, either, and I rally like it. The watch face is easy to read plus I'm a stickler for having a sweep hand --- that just seems like something that belongs on a watch, so I like getting mine with an actual second hand/ sweep hand. It gives the watch a bit of character, a bit of life to it.The leather band is a bit thick and a bit stiff at first, but that will ease up in time. There are always thousands of band options, too, if I have to go that way.The luminosity is marginally disappointing. I like having at least some of the outer dial to glow in the dark, like maybe the 12 - 3 - 6 and 9 positions, but on this watch it's just the hands that glow. No matter, it's only a slight quibble.Very good purchase for the price!

I love this watch
I love this watch! My goals: quality, comfortable, easy-to-read watch with a leather band and never a need to replace batteries. The result: home run!I did watch (heh) this one for a while in hopes the price would come down, and when it did, I pounced. No regrets whatsoever. The 45mm dial is large, but it's not gaudy. The band is quite thick, yet very comfortable. My wrist size is such that I need to stretch the band a wee bit to secure it, but I suspect time will make that easier.I wear this to work ~ 2x/week in a business casual environment, and am very, very happy.

Beautiful... I don't know if it is working properly
I love, love, LOVE Citizen Eco-Drive watches. As far as the Eco-Drive watches go, this has been the least reliable in keeping time - I have several so I don't wear this one as much. Sometimes I wonder if it is a bit of a kinetically-driven watch too? I have a few watches, and this is a bit darker than the others, so I don't use it as often, and it will stop working if not on a wrist. It will begin to work again if I wear it.I purchased it at $112, so even though it needs more attention than the others, I am still very happy with this purchase.

Worth the purchase for a nice, classic, casual watch.
Love this watch, not overly large face and not overly thick too. Face quality is nice and color scheme is excellent. The band is nice in style, but the leather can feel a little..."crispy" at times when it gets sweaty, like low quality leather watch bands can feel all the time. For the price though, the face alone is worth the cost. Might change out the band for a nicer one, but only if the current band breaks at the place that needs to bend so you can close the buckle to actually wear the watch. Overall I'm happy with this watch (and most Citizen watches in general).

Nice watch
The size of the dial is the perfect size. No batteries. Like that the band is a strap/buckle and not links, so no need to go to the jeweler to get it sized.

Watch failed quickly and no support from either Citizen or Amazon
I had this watch for about 18 months when the stem fell out. I went to the Citizen website for customer service and sent it to one of their authorized service centers. I was told that the repair would cost more than what I paid for the watch. On the sales page, it said that it had a 5 year warranty. Turns out that this is an extremely limited 5 year warranty. Neither Amazon nor Citizen was any assistance in resolving the issue, so it now appears that Citizen makes "disposable" watches. Shame, this was the 3rd Citizen watch that I had owned and I guess that it's the last. Also, taught me that Amazon's willingness to help me find some satisfaction was quite limited as what I got from the phone call was the guy parroting what his supervisor told him and wouldn't budge from that. Lessons learned: don't buy Citizen watches (they also make Bulovas) and be careful about what you order from Amazon

Excellent value for the money
I like everything about this watch. I was concerned about the size as I have small wrists but it fits great! Good looking watch and one thing not mentioned in the ad is that the hands glow at night. Beautiful watch that pretty much goes with any attire.

Love those Citizen Eco Watches!
This is the third Citizen Eco watch I have purchased over the last 10 years. All purchsed at a substantial discount over "list". I highly recommend the brand. Good quality watches with an amazing selection of styles. My first Citizen has a titanium band and case. “Tough as nails” apart from a very scratched crystal, which Citizen is presently replacing.I chose this particular watch because I wanted a dress watch with a black face and a more traditional leather band. No extra features such as a chronograph or alarm. Just a very basic timepiece. Looks very stylish, almost retro. Clear and uncluttered watch face. Has luminous hands for nighttime. I need reading glasses so I appreciate a watch that I can read without having to take out my specs. Comes with a 5 year warranty. Service depot in Canada, not the US or further abroad.A word on the solar ECO feature. It is not a marketing gimmick, it truly works as advertised. No battery to replace every year or so. Aside from the inconvenience, it can difficult to find a “qualified” jeweller willing to replace watch battery, especially on a watch they did not sell. Make note that most manufacturers will not warrant their watches after the battery has been replaced by a non-certified technician. And remember that every time you open a watch case, you potentially compromise the watertight seals on the back plate.

No brainer!
Just received this beauty, the third Citizen Eco-Drive in the collection. I love it! This brand has never disappointed me.This 45 mm watch fits very well on my 55mm wrist. As always, you get the same Citizen quality. Great, quiet mouvement. You'll never run out of battery and will unlikely need to service the watch. Ever. The leather strap is very fits perfectly with the aviator style. The touch of red on the top of the second hand gives that watch an extra push of "wow"!I highly recommend it!

Clunky But Competent
As wrist watches go, it is large, thick and heavy with a heavy, stiff strap. You are always conscious of it being on your wrist. I imagine the large size is due to the technology, in which the watch face absorbs the light which charges the battery which powers the watch. I guess the technology has not yet developed into miniaturization sufficient to avoid making somewhat of a clunky timepiece. The watch face is interesting, also, in that it features the minutes around the circumference rather than the hours. The hours are displayed on the inner circle of the face. It has a 24-hour display but the hours 1-12 are in red and barely visible while the hours 13-24 are in white and plainly seen. This seems like an interesting choice of priority in view of the fact most purchasers would have little need for a the 24-hour dial feature. The hour hand, as you can see, is prominently wider than the minute hand and is also rimmed in fluorescent red. The second hand is virtually invisible except for the tip, which is also in fluorescent red. If the sweep hand is important to you, beware that you will have to search for and find it against a dark background. In terms of what is most important, I have had the watch now for about half a month and it seems to keep good time. I have had no reason to reset it. A longer trial will be necessary to determine how well it keeps time.

The face is easy to read as well as the date
I had previously purchased a Citizen watch and when I saw this one I had to have it. It has a thick strong leather strap which was important to me. The face is easy to read as well as the date. I find the quality to be very high and it was reasonably priced. If you are looking for a decent watch that can be worn as a casual or elegant watch then this is worth the money.
