Madame X [Blu-ray]

I have a standard definition of this DVD but when I saw it was also available in high definition I wanted to upgrade as it is such a good film. I was concerned, however, at some of the reviews about it being in Italian/French with foreign headlines where the newspaper headlines are used in the film. I contacted the seller, therefore, who was most helpful and promptly replied that these reviews do not refer to his films and assured me it was in English. The Blu-ray arrived quickly and was as expected. For a 1966 film the HD was good, in English, with English newspaper headlines. Very happy. I defy anyone not to shed a tear at the end of this film !!!

TRULY AWFUL QUALITYThis dvd was clearly flawed. It would run for a minute or two, then get stuck, then flip back to the beginning. This happened over and over again. Please inform me about a refund ASAP

I believe this was Lana Turner's last major movie on the big screen (there were one or two forays on television after this, unless I am very much mistaken), and, boy, this was some performance. I remember watching this film when it was first released in 1966, and there was not a dry eye in the house by the time it had ended. I have already used this DVD six or seven times, and the emotion has not waned. The court room scenes, where "Madame X" is, unbeknown to her, being defended by her own son, are the most heart-wrenching I have ever seen.

It was good to be able to eventually obtain this great classic film, with an amazing performance from Lana Turner. It's been produced by an Italian supplier, but is in the original (English) soundtrack, with Italian subtitles that can be swtiched off (and are only shown against newspaper article scenes, which is not a problem). Despatch and quality of DVD is very good.

I bought this film because it's a classic. The only minor moan I have with this version is that the film appears ever so slightly out of focus (the picture quality reminds me of old VHS recordings!) - hence the 4 star rating. One other thing, although the film is English, whenever newspaper clippings are shown as part of the film (you'll know what I mean if you've ever seen the film), they are translated on screen in Italian subtitles - something I wasn't expecting. None of this however, stopped me from enjoying the movie though. The end always makes me weep!

I have been looking for this movie for a long time. Lana Turner in the title role delivers an amazing performance from start to finish. With excellent support from a wonderful cast including John Forsythe, Constance Bennett and Keir Dullea. Thank you Amazon for making my dreams come true.

A wonderful transfer of one of the all-time great weepies. Fantastic performances and high production values.

Wonderful old film. Great to see again. Sadly quality was not so good. Spoilt showing.
