These plugs are big and do what they are meant to - Allow me to disconnect the winch if needed. The metal pieces are very thick and I had no way to crimp the wires in them. I ended up filling them solid with solder and they work great.

$40 may seem a lot for a connector, but it is big, heavy and well built. Even so, $40 is a lot. But this is the USA - rip off the consumer with accessories. They all do it. ($20 for a phone cord! That's thievery.) At least this connector looks like its worth at least $25.

I built a 36 ft extension cable with 1/0 welding wire for my receiver mounted Warn Xeon 10k winch. These worked wonderful for my needs. Only problem I had was my cable was a bit too large so I needed to trim some copper from the ends to ensure a good clean solder in the end connectors. For those interested I built the cable in order to power the winch on the back of my flatbed car hauler trailer on an as needed basis. I was a little worried the power loss would be too much but it works just the same as it did with a 6 ft power cable. Mine is powered with the stock alternator on my 5.9L Cummins with two Optima Yellowtops to handle the load and I have zero problems.

I have used 3 sets of these. I have an external connection to my truck battery which rests next to my enclosed 12K winch. Anything I want to connect to the battery, I connectors on jumper cables and other DC wired devices which fit into the external connector on the truck so I don't have to open the hood of the truck. Understand that the metal inserts that fit into the connectors (where you solder your cable onto) are large enough for jumper cable sized wires. For smaller wires such as 10 or 12 gauge, I suggest you heat the metal insert, fill it with solder then insert the bared wire into the solder. If you don't you may end up with a less than perfect solder job and a loose connection. The product states you can crimp your connection, but I don't like crimping because invariably you end up with a future loose connection problem. Do it right the first time - solder isn't that expense. If you don't have a torch to heat up the metal insert find someone that has one because your going to need a lot of heat to get the insert hot enough to fill with solder. After the solder is cool then I inserted the metal end into the connector and used electrical tape though it wasn't really needed for the larger diameter cables but necessary for extra strength for smaller cables. HINT - If you go off road or are in wet weather, put a rubber or nitril glove over the external connector - it will help keep the grit out of the connector. If you need to, you can remove the metal ends from inside the connector at anytime to clean out any grit from the connector but it is easier to keep it clean in the first place.

They work just as advertised, they allow me to quickly disconnect the winch and move it to my front or back hitch. I also have the larger ones for my winch on a jeep for the same reason.
