Unique seal for sewage smell in laundry room
The product feels and looks high quality. The valve door appears to use magnets to keep it closed. It stays closed while also being easy for water to push it open when draining the washing machine. I tested it by using a very low stream of water from my kitchen faucet. This product's door opened immediately and closed when I turned the water off.I have only had it installed for 5 days. We had a periodic issue where sewage smell would make its way up the pipe used for the washing machine drain hose. We haven't had any issue yet but I need to give it a month. Our issue would kick off sometimes when doing laundry. The inconsistency makes it hard to troubleshoot. But, once the smell is detected, it seemed that the smell would keep coming for 2-4 days. Through testing, it seemed that if I ran the washing machine enough times the smell would stop but I wasn't very scientific about it.I had to remove the outer plastic ring for it to fit into my drain pipe properly. The plastic wall insert for the drain pipe and hot/cold water attachments didn't have room for the plastic outer ring. However, the product appears to function perfectly without it.I stuck the washer hose as deep into this product as I could to ensure the hose would stay put. It seems very secure. I did not need to cut any of the silicon-like material. I'd say be careful to not stick the house too far in to ensure you don't block the flap from closing. I also strapped the washing machine house to the wall to ensure there is no way for it to pull out of this product. This step isn't necessary but it adds a little peace of mind. This was the only product of its type that had a flap to keep gasses (and I guess bugs) out. Consider this product a success if I don't report back. Ultimately, my plumber was stumped as to why I was getting these sewer gasses. His hunch was that the washing machine hose was pushed to far in (3-4') and maybe was flowing out the p-trap somehow.

DO NOT BUY!
The magnetic door was not opening the whole way unbeknownst to me and caused water to leak and pool behind my washing machine. I only noticed after hearing a drip walking past my laundry room. It must have been happening for weeks as the baseboards are warped and swollen.
